Awards 2007-2008

The Faculty of the SUNY College at Brockport Department of Chemistry congratulates the following students. We are proud of their achievements.

The Paul J. Kronthaler Memorial Prize in Chemistry: Honors the memory of Paul J. Kronthaler, a member of the first class of chemistry majors to graduate from the SUNY College at Brockport, the Class of 1968. Paul was killed in action in Vietnam in 1969. Awarded to a graduating chemistry major whose performance during his/her career at Brockport has been outstanding in terms of academic record, laboratory assisting, research participation, and contributions to the social and intellectual life of the Department. The selection committee is composed of two faculty members and three chemistry majors not eligible for the prize in the current year. Heather L. Mulford

Departmental Scholar- Chemistry: Awarded to the chemistry major with senior standing who has the highest GPA in all courses taken in chemistry at the SUNY College at Brockport. Steven J. Seedhouse

Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society Chemistry Achievement Award: Sponsored by the Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society, a national professional organization of chemists, and awarded to a graduating chemistry major whose overall work places him/her at the top of the graduating class. American Institute of Chemists Award for Achievement: Sponsored by the American Institute of Chemists, a national professional organization of chemists, and awarded to a graduating chemistry major whose overall work in chemistry places him/her in the top 20 percent of the graduating class of chemistry majors. The Rochester Midland Corporation Magnetic Resonance Fellowship: Recognizes a student who, for eight weeks in the summer of 2006, participated in the research program of a member of the faculty. The participant receives a stipend from the Rochester Midland Corporation Magnetic Resonance Fellowship Grant. Steven J. Seedhouse

The Sigma Xi Award for Interdisciplinary Research in Biology and Chemistry: Awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated potential for scientific research as participants in the interdisciplinary Merck AAAS Program and show promise of future success in scientific research. Individual biology or chemistry research mentors nominate, the director of the Merck AAAS grant endorses, and a committee of the Brockport Club of the Society of Sigma Xi, a national organization whose purpose is to encourage scientific research, confirms the recipients. The Organic Chemistry Award: Sponsored by the Polymer Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society and awarded to the Chemistry major who achieved at the highest level in CHM305 and CHM306. Phillip G. Bailey
