The Department of Communication at The College at Brockport offers one of New York State’s strongest graduate programs in communication studies. Upon completion of the program, students will be qualified to take up or continue careers in the communication professions or to enter a doctoral program in communication. Graduates work as teachers and administrators in educational institutions ranging from community colleges to those that award advanced degrees. Others work in a broad range of businesses and industries in positions that include sales, management, communications and technical services. Still others have entered the field of law. Surveys and the numerous statements of business leaders have made it abundantly clear that success and advancement in all these areas depend upon the ability to communicate effectively – an ability that the graduate program in communication studies at The College at Brockport is designed to foster.
The foundation for this program is an outstanding faculty and excellent library resources. The graduate faculty all hold advanced degrees from major research institutions and collectively have a nationally recognized research and publication record that includes scholarly press books, texts and articles in major communication journals. Graduate students who come from a broad diversity of backgrounds and undergraduate institutions further enrich the program. Because many communication graduate students are fully employed part-time students, all required courses in the program are offered as evening classes.
