PUTTING ACCOUNTING IN YOUR FUTURE
HELPING YOU GET THERE!

Planning has begun for the annual Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program, organized by the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants – Rochester, New York Chapter, and supported by numerous local firms and organizations. This program is focused on 11th grade students of minority groups historically underrepresented in the accounting profession.

Your school’s students are invited to learn more about the program in an upcoming presentation session by a community accounting professional at your school. These sessions will be arranged through committee contact. Any student meeting the requirements may apply to the program at any time and look forward to the June 2007 program at the State University College at Brockport. (There are limited spaces available; encourage interested students to apply as soon as possible.)

The program is designed to build on a basic understanding of accounting through highly interactive and informative multi sessions. Speakers, presenters, and workshop guests are all highly enthusiastic and supportive of the program. There are opportunities for continued contact with the COAP committee members as mentor support for years to come both individually and through annual “Homecoming” events.

Every life is affected by accounting, in many forms. Many of these are not so obvious in the day-to-day lives of Rochester Area school-age minority groups. The COAP program was founded partly on the identification of the current lack of minority accountants in our community. This program acts to inspire these future professionals.

Attached is the widely released article summarizing the successes of last years COAP event. Included in this mailing are materials for disbursement to student candidates.
