The College at Brockport is pleased to invite all undergraduate students from the School of Health and Human Performance and the School of Science and Mathematics, along with their families and guests, to the Undergraduate Morning Commencement Ceremony, which will be held in the SERC House of Fields.

There is a five-ticket limit per student so we can be sure that all guests can be seated in the SERC House of Fields. You will not be able to claim tickets unless your online Application for Graduation is submitted by April 11, 2014. A limited amount of additional tickets may be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis depending on availability.

For guests without tickets, we are offering an on-campus alternate viewing location in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Tuttle North, where the ceremony will be streamed live. Or, for those with friends and family that are unable to come to campus, the ceremony will be streamed live on the College’s website. Your friends and family will be able to watch you graduate from anywhere in the world. Make sure you invite them to join us!

Students must assemble in the Tuttle Ice Arena by 8:30 am. Family members and guests should be seated in the SERC House of Fields by 9 am. The student processional begins promptly at 9:30 am.

The name of each graduate will be read as they cross the stage and receive a diploma cover, compliments of the Brockport Alumni Association, Brockport Student Government and the College. We request that all graduates, guests and family members remain seated for the entire ceremony. Graduates and guests are advised to make arrangements in advance regarding where to meet following the ceremony.

Arrive early and allow at least 45 minutes for entry into the SERC House of Fields as well as seating prior to the start of the ceremony. Bleacher and floor seating is available in the House of Fields. For your safety, flat shoes are recommended.

Please note:

  • Balloons are not allowed inside the SERC.
  • The College at Brockport is a smoke-free campus. For more information, please read our policy.

Eligibility and Requirements for Graduation

If you plan on attending the Commencement ceremony in May 2014, the Application for Graduation should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than April 11 for your name to appear in the Commencement program and to be eligible to claim guest tickets to the ceremony. If you completed your degree in December 2013 or January 2014, or if you will be completing your degree requirements in May 2014 or August 2014, you must complete the online Application for Graduation that can be found in the Campus Information System (Web Banner).

If you have questions, please email degree@brockport.edu.

Diplomas and a Commencement program will be mailed to graduates in late summer once all graduation requirements are verified and confirmed. Remember, participation in the Commencement ceremony and listing in the program does not constitute official graduation or conferral of degree.

Latin Honors

For a student's name to appear in the 2014 Commencement program with Latin honors, the student must have earned at least a 3.40 cumulative institutional GPA by the end of January 2014 and must be expected to have completed (by Commencement) a minimum of 48 credits taken at The College at Brockport.

The Latin honors designations indicated in the program do not actually confer Latin honors, but do entitle the student to wear special tassels on the cap: gold for summa cum laude, green and gold for magna cum laude, and green and black for cum laude. The official award of Latin honors is based the student's final course record and cumulative institutional GPA. When earned, Latin honors will be officially noted on the student's diploma and the College transcript.

Green Caps, Gowns and Tassels

All ceremony participants must wear The College at Brockport’s green Commencement gowns, caps and tassels. They may be purchased at the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore in Seymour College Union beginning April 2. No advance order is necessary as sizes are assigned by height. Undergraduate sets of cap, gown and tassel are $48.98.

Balfour will be on campus outside the Bookstore in the Seymour College Union April 2 and 3 from 10 am – 3 pm, taking orders for personal announcements and rings. If you are unable to stop by, contact the Bookstore by April 4 to order personalized announcements, or check the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore website for a link to order online. Generic announcements, commemorative items and gifts are also available for sale at the Bookstore. The Bookstore will be open Friday, May 16, 8:30 am – 6 pm, and Saturday, May 17, 8:30 am – 4 pm. For more information, call the Bookstore at (585) 395-2554.

graduationPhotographs of the Graduates

GradImages® takes photographs of the graduates as they walk across the stage. Proofs and purchase information will be mailed to each graduate's home address in the summer.

GradImages® also provides reader cards for use during the ceremony as well as identification cards following the ceremony. Graduates, be sure to fill out your reader card with correct phonetic spelling. Also, be sure to provide the permanent address of where you will be residing after Commencement for accurate delivery of your photos.

A banner that says: Click here to register your email and get $5 off orders of $25 or more.

Registering with GradImages® provides the information they need to deliver your graduation proofs to you in a timely manner. Giving them an accurate mailing address and email address will allow them to get your proofs to you on the first try.

Post-Ceremony Reception

The Brockport Alumni Association will host a reception for the new alumni, their families, guests, faculty and staff following the ceremony, from 11 am to noon. The reception will be held in the Tuttle North gymnasiums 205 and 206. This is a great opportunity for graduates and their families and guests to meet and greet the faculty and staff. Please join us as we celebrate your success.

Directions, Parking and Campus Map

Since traffic delays are unavoidable, guests should plan to arrive early and allow extra time to get seated in the House of Fields.

Directions to The College at Brockport

Plan to enter the campus via Commencement Drive (off Route 31). Get our Campus Map.

There will be limited handicapped parking available in Lot V for cars with official handicap identification.

Parking is available in any campus lot, except Lot U. For easier exiting after the ceremony, you may wish to park in the lots along Residence Drive. No parking permit is required.

SERC Access and Seating for Mobility Impaired Attendees

Mobility impaired guests can be dropped off in the loop outside the SERC main entrance. The loop will close at the end of the ceremony and reopen after guests have exited SERC. Guests may use the main entrance or the side entrance to enter the SERC House of Fields. Drivers can park in lots V or V-1. There will be limited handicapped parking available in lot V for cars with official handicap identification.

Plan to arrive early for the best seating availability. For guests with wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility impairments that are unable to navigate the bleachers, ground-level seating will be available. This seating is limited, and we ask that our mobility impaired guests choose one family member to accompany them in the reserved seating. This seating is first come, first served.

Interpreting Services for the Deaf

Interpreting services will be provided at the ceremony. Two large video screens on either side of the stage will enhance your ceremony viewing.

Deaf students working with the Office for Students with Disabilities may contact the office at (585) 395-5409 regarding specific arrangements. Deaf faculty, staff and visitors who need consultation regarding more specific interpreting accommodations may contact Christa Aldrich in the Affirmative Action Office at (585) 395-2109.

Congratulations once again on your achievement! Remember to get involved, stay connected and make your Brockport family proud!

Alumni Association Table

The Alumni Association will have an informational table located just outside the main entrance of the SERC. Receive information regarding the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) program (a program established for recent alumni of Brockport) and pick up your Brockport senior apparel order.

Brockport Foundation Table – Dedication Booklet

Did you write a message in the 2014 Dedication Booklet? Pick up your copy of the booklet at one of the Brockport Foundation tables at Commencement.

Alumni Association Gift

The Alumni Association congratulates the members of the Class of 2014 on all of their accomplishments. As a special gift, the Association would like to provide each graduate with their very own business card holder embossed with the College logo. These gifts can be picked up at various senior events throughout the spring semester.

Alumni Placement Survey

The College is interested in, and required by federal policies to report on, what you are doing post-graduation. We need to ask you about this both before you graduate and afterward. When you pick up your cap and gown, we’d like you to respond to one multiple-choice question that asks what you expect to be doing after graduation (e.g., job, further schooling, etc.). Also, please be on the watch for an invitation to participate in our annual Alumni Placement Survey in fall 2014. Information you provide can affect our position in various college rankings, and, more importantly, it can help the College improve our educational efforts and thus the outcomes for future graduates. Reports on completed survey results are available online. Thank you.
