2012-2013 Awards

The following group and individual student organization awards are available for the 2012-2013 academic year. Nomination forms will become available on March 1, 2013 and the deadline to submit nominations is April 1, 2013.

“Unsung Hero” Award

This award recognizes a registered student organization member who has established themselves as a rising leader and made significant contributions to his or her organization but is not within an officially recognized leadership capacity for that student organization. This student gives their all to the organization, demonstrating true commitment and devotion to the organization’s causes both on campus and in the community. The nominee may be a member– they may not be the president of or in an officer capacity within their organization. The nominee should demonstrate potential for advancement to a leadership position and go above and beyond the typical requirements for a student organization general member.
To be eligible for the “Unsung Hero” Emerging Student Organization Leader, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominee is a member but not in an officer role within their organization. 
  • Nominee is listed as a member in myBROCKPORT.

Student Organization Officer of the Year

This award is open to a student organization officer. This award recognizes an individual who publicly advanced the mission of their organization while challenging and encouraging the membership to advance new initiatives, acquire new skills, and prepare the organization for leadership transition and ongoing success. This award is bestowed upon the individual who has illustrated the commitment and leadership that they have offered their organization/group, and most especially the community of – and/or surrounding - The College at Brockport as a whole.
To be eligible for the Student Organization Officer of the Year Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

  • The nominee must be able to give proof of their officer position by uploading a copy of their CCT via myBROCKPORT.
  • The nominee must be in good standing with Student Conduct System.
  • The nominee upholds the values and mission of the organization.
  • The nominee must demonstrate leadership qualities. (Highly requirement nominees participate in Leadership Development Program and Organizational Leadership Certificate).

Student Organization Advisor of the Year

This award will be presented to the student organization advisor that showed outstanding leadership and advisement in supporting the efforts of the student organization. The individual receiving this award will be judged on their advisory and support skills for the student organization.
To be eligible for the Student Organization Advisor of the Year, nominee must meet the following criteria:

  • Listed in myBROCKPORT as the organization advisor as outlined in Student Organization Registration Policy.
  • The nominee has had a significant impact on the organization through one or more of the following:
  • Positive role modeling
  • Supporting the students in the organization
  • Accessible
  • Serves as a resource expert
  • Mediator
  • Encouraging

Student Organization of the Year Award

This award is open to any registered student organization at The College at Brockport.  Its purpose is to recognize a student organization that has embodied their mission and that of the College throughout the organization work during 2012 – 2013 academic years. It honors one recognized student organization that has enhance the College, student community, the development of their organization members, and has continued to be reputable and have a strong presence on The College at Brockport’s campus and in the surrounding community. 
To be eligible for the Student Organization/Group of the Year Award, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Fulfills values and mission of the organization and the College.
  • Registered for 2012-2013 year as outlined in the Student Organization Registration Policy.
  • In good standing with Student Conduct System.
  • Active use of the administration group features of myBROCKPORT (posting club news articles, member roster updated, documents, constitution up to date, photos descriptive profile, profile and header image, etc.).
  • Communication and collaboration with related College departments (i.e. Student Union and Activities, BSG, Community Development, LDP, etc.) and other student organizations.
  • Designed creative marketing across campus.
  • Demonstration of leadership development activities that benefit the student, group, college, and/or community.
  • Involvement with the community through programming and campus events throughout the academic year.

The Brockport Innovative Community Service Award

The Brockport Innovative Community Service Award (BICSA) is presented annually to an individual and/or individuals who during the eligibility year conducted or participated in a service project beyond the ordinary. This award goal is to recognize people who introduce new, original and creative ideas to service efforts in such areas as (but not limited to) health care, literacy, and/or poverty/hunger.
To be eligible for The Brockport Innovative Community Service Award Criteria, individual(s) must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominee(s) must be registered students of Brockport College during the nomination year. (2012-2013)
  • Nominee(s) may not receive the award two consecutive years for the same service project.
  • Nominee(s) must be unpaid volunteers, and may not receive any compensation for their efforts or time.
  • Volunteer efforts upon which a nomination is based must have occurred during the eligibility year. (2012-2013)
  • Nominee(s) must introduce new original and creative ideas to service efforts in such areas as (but not limited to) health care, literacy, and/or poverty/hunger

The Outstanding Program/Event Award

This award is given to a registered student organization that hosted an on campus event during the previous school year.  The award specifically recognizes events or programs that are collaborative, innovative, and unique, reach a wide audience on campus, and have clearly stated outcomes.
