POLICE & PUBLIC SAFETY RESEARCH & ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Office of Police & Public Safety Research & Organizational Development

A Unit of the Department of Criminal Justice

State University of New York at Brockport

Mission Statement

The Office of Police and Public Safety Research and Organizational Development will provide public safety organizations (Police, Sheriff, Fire, Rescue, and EMS) agencies with management and staff assistance consisting of a broad array of topics listed below. Staff will provide expertise to agencies in the form of research and development, organization and staff needs, community liaison and partnership development, and assistance with problem solving issues. In addition, we are committed to the principle of community and neighborhood problem solving and the concept of community oriented government. An area of particular benefit is our partnership with Pro-Change Behavior Systems, Inc. , at the University of Rhode Island. The development of a powerful planning and implementation model for organizations and institutions considering major changes, (i.e., community oriented policing) is under development. Pro-Change has used a similar model for nearly two decades in health sciences with great success . Whereas 60% of new reengineering efforts fail, starting a project using proven methods that enhance the likelihood of success, is cost effective, healthy for employees, and results in vastly improved mission and goal accomplishment.
