CSTEP: Brief Look
The New York State Educational Department established the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) to provide for the special needs of students who are either low-income or members of an historically underrepresented minority group, and who are interested in the fields of math, science, health professions or technology programs leading to licensure (e.g. social work, law, veterinary medicine, etc.).

What CSTEP Can Offer

The objectives of CSTEP are to:

Provide a faculty mentor in your area of interest, who meets with you once a month to assist in defining and achieving career goals. Past CSTEP students have felt that the mentors were dedicated, concerned, caring and supportive advocates.
Provide academic support (free tutoring, use of computers for word processing, computer-assigned instruction, etc.) to assist CSTEP students in improving their grades so they may compete effectively for desirable positions after graduation from SUNY Brockport.
Provide significant financial assistance for specialized preparation courses for standardized examinations (e.g. GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.).
Hold skill-building seminiars for students that focus on professional development.
Place in internships and/or co-op experiences.

To Qualify For CSTEP

To qualify for this program you must:

Be a NYS resident who is Black, Hispanic, or American Indian OR a low-income student (as determined by the Financial Aid Office).
Be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.25 or above).
Be a full-time student (12 credit hours or more).
Be interested in a career covered by this program.
