2009-2010 Concert Performances and Events
Tickets may be purchased at Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office. Box Office Hours: Mondays-Fridays from 9:30am-5 pm, Saturdays from 10am-4pm, or call (585) 395-ARTS. Credit card reservations and remaining tickets will be available at the Hartwell Box Office one hour prior to scheduled performance times.
All performances take place in Hartwell Dance Theater, unless otherwise noted. Hartwell Dance Theater features RESERVED seating for all performances; please arrive early to ensure being seated before the performance begins.
Gallim Dance

than any other concerts presented by the dance department, these showings of new student works involve the audience as a part of the creative process. The talkbacks that follow the concerts allow dance lovers to provide feedback, which can help the choreographers enrich their pieces.

A striking evening that can feature rhythm tap, modern or ethnic dance, all drawn from the lives, experiences and inspirations of our incredibly talented faculty and students. The fall concert features MFA thesis choreography by Kathleen Diehl and Rebecca Sproul, while the spring concert features works by MFA candidates Madia Cooper and Leanne Rinelli.

DANSCORE

DANSCORE features the choreography of the dance department faculty who have studied or performed with the world-renowned companies of Alvin Ailey, Robert Joffrey, José Limón and Merce Cunningham. Others have danced to great acclaim in their native lands. What they bring to their choreography, presented in these concerts, cannot be underestimated.

With a raw point of view and a forthright honesty, Kate Weare creates vignettes of the eternal battle of the sexes. The choreographer is bringing her company of New York City-based dancers to The College at Brockport for a one-week residency that culminates in three performances on Thursday through Saturday, February 4 – 6, 2010 at 7:30 pm in the College’s Hartwell Dance Theater. The residency and performances are sponsored by the Student Dance Organization, in association with the Brockport Student Government.

Evans has choreographed more than 200 works for professional modern dance, ballet and tap dance companies. He has performed internationally, and in all 50 states, both with and without his own professional dance company (which he has helmed for over 30 years and has recently re-established here in Rochester). On this 70th birthday milestone he ruminates, “When I perform, age becomes irrelevant. Only the moment matters.”
Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble

The unabashed joy of dance and the rhythm of drums combine in the occasionally Carnivale-esque atmosphere that is Sankofa. Artistic director Clyde Alafiju Morgan and musical director of Khalid N’Faly Saleem set out to bring a bit of African, Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian culture to Brockport and have created a phenomenon.
