SUNY Brockport: Expect the Extraordinary!
Academics

I’m excited that you are reading this message and that you're considering SUNY Brockport’s dance program. We offer the opportunity to choose from a variety of levels of participation in dance.

The BFA degree program is best suited to those students who are seriously considering a career as a dancer/choreographer. For those interested in declaring a double major in dance and another academic area, the BA in dance may be the best program. If your goal is to teach elementary school and expose children to dance, the Arts for Children program with a dance focus might interest you. Perhaps you are a talented dancer but at this point, you’re unsure of a career in dance. I then suggest you consider the dance minor. Regardless of your interest, upon passing the required audition, you will have an opportunity to develop to your full potential and become a technically strong, creative and intelligent dancer.

Dr. Darwin Prioleau
Our dance program offers a rich selection of courses. In addition to the several styles of modern dance technique, there are numerous opportunities to study ballet, jazz, tap, African and Irish dance with internationally renowned faculty that I proudly refer to as the “dream team”. Your dance studies will be rounded out with courses such as kinesiology, history, music and choreography. Opportunities to perform and choreograph in our two renovated performance spaces are extensive and student choreographers and dancers are strongly mentored by the faculty.

The dance faculty are interested in students who are “thinking dancers”, dancers who love the art form and are interested in intellectual and artistic growth. SUNY Brockport’s dance community is interested in you not only as a dancer but also as a person. So ask yourself, “Is Brockport a good match for me?” If the answer is yes, the dance faculty and I look forward to seeing you at our next audition.

Meanwhile, keep dancing!
