Dena grew up in the Rochester, NY area and has been dancing since she was a little girl. During high school, she went to a performing arts school studying dance, music, and acting. She continued studying dance at SUNY Brockport and then the University at Buffalo. While at the University at Buffalo, she performed and choreographed in department productions and graduated with a BA in Dance.

While working on her masters studies at the University at Buffalo, Dena taught in the dance department and choreographed for Zodiaque Studio Dance Ensemble. Dena graduated with her Masters in Arts and Humanities with focus on dance and early childhood education. Dena has taught at dance studios around the Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester area. Dena owns a dance studio in Webster called DK Dance and thoroughly enjoys the process of teaching dance to all and loves sharing her passion and joy for the art to as many as possible.
