Mark Olivieri

Composer In Residence/Accompanist

Mark Olivieri has been Composer in Residence in the Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport since 2000. He has played and composed for luminaries like the Jose Limon, Sean Curran, Lar Lubovitch, and Shapiro and Smith Dance Companies. As a pianist, Olivieri performs regularly with choreographer and dance icon Bill Evans. The two will collaborate on a new work for the SUNY Brockport DANSCORE concert in November of 2007.

Recent notable performances of his music have included Suite for Jules for Violin and Cello at Glinka Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia by the Schulhoff Duo in May of 2007 and Quasi Domenici for piano solo at the Festival for Contemorary Music in Porto Allegro, Brazil in May and August of 2007 respectively.

Olivieri has received commissions from various performers and ensembles including Melanie Aceto Contemporary Dance, Nicola Melville, The Richards String Quartet, The Syrinx Duo, The University of Louisville Contemporary Players, The Eastman String Quartet, The Alfred Duo, The Atlanta New Music Ensemble, and the Society for New Music.

Olivieri is the founder and co-artistic director of the Vision of Sound New Music and Dance Festival. He is the assistant coordinator for the Heidelberg New Music Festival, which has presented new choreographic works set to music by featured composers such as Leslie Bassett, Samuel Adler, David Rakowski. and Karel Husa.

Olivieri lives in Spencerport, N.Y. with his wife Alaina and their four children.
