Vanessa Van Wormer is originally from Spokane, WA, where she danced with Ballet Spokane and the Spokane Opera. Since relocating to NY Van Wormer has been a featured guest artist and choreographer for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra with Jeff Tyzik, and has danced with Bill Evans Dance Company, James Hansen/Assemblage Dance, Configurations Dance Theater with Joseph Cipolla, and in prestigious festivals including Jacob’s Pillow, and The American Dance Guild Festival. Van Wormer has also performed in London in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music.
Van Wormer's choreography has been commissioned by Eastman School of Music, Memorial Art Gallery, KHDP Seattle, Core Project Chicago, and showcased in the American College Dance Festival Association, Green Space, Ballet Spokane's Choreography Showcase, & Dance New Amsterdam, among others. While in Washington Van Wormer was director of the Deer Park School District K-12 Ballet Program, where she developed curriculum and all levels of ballet technique, pointe, and creative movement.
Van Wormer holds an MFA in Dance from The College at Brockport, State University of New York, and a BA in Theater and Dance from Belhaven University. She has taught Nazareth College, and The College at Brockport, and is currently a visiting assistant professor of dance at SUNY, The College at Brockport where she teaches ballet technique, composition, children’s dance, and dance history.
