Advantages
Because Delta College emphasizes skill development, students learn to write, present and reason with confidence and professionalism. At the same time, the program does not overlook creative performance. Whether it involves drama, music or other artistic pursuits, these forms of expression are both encouraged and showcased in cumulative, Delta-wide events. Our current students also are involved in numerous campus clubs, sport teams and community-based activities.
Delta College students literally travel the world in pursuit of academic programs or internships, finding placements in Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Central and South America, India, Africa and Asia. In preparation, our students become knowledgeable about the history, culture and language of their intended international country. Imagine being a political science major and working in England’s House of Commons, a business major in Costa Rica’s Banco Central, a criminal justice major getting an assignment at an American Embassy, or studying dance in Australia. These opportunities are there for the taking.
To alleviate the concerns of some parents regarding the international
component, Delta College offers another option for cross-cultural experiences
within the United States, namely the National Service to America
semester. This variation allows students to pursue internships that complement
their majors in a variety of diverse communities. For example, a
psychology major served as a school counselor on the Coleville Reservation
in Washington, while another worked with Inuit children at a summer
camp in Alaska. A third student utilized her health science major and proficiency in Spanish to assist immigrant farmers in Florida. We take considerable pride in our flexibility and genuinely treat each student as an individual first. After all, our faculty
members are parents too.
