The Department of Counselor Education offers a Master of Science in Education (MSEd), a Master of Science (MS), and a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS).

The MSEd has two concentrations, each of which is CACREP-accredited:

School Counselor Emphasis - prepared to work in a K-12 setting; eligible for New York State Provisional School Counselor Certification-48 credits.
College Counselor Emphasis - prepared to work in a two- and four-year postsecondary setting-48 credits.

The MS has one concentration that is also CACREP-accredited:

Mental Health Counselor Emphasis - prepared to work in mental health and chemcial dependency agencies or institutions-60 credits.

Beyond the 48-credit program for School Counselors, the department offers a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) that leads to permanent New York State School Counselor Certification, providing the candidate meets the experience requirement. Applicants to this program must possess a New York State School Counselor Provisional Certificate. Students admitted to the CAS program may be given up to 48 credits for courses completed as part of their master's degree, leaving 12 credits to complete in fulfillment of the 60-credit CAS requirement. Students matriculated in a master's degree or a CAS program in the department, who desire provisional or permanent school certification, must contact the Office of Certification at the College at Brockport (SUNY), (585) 395-2344.
