Chi Sigma Iota

Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society


Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society of counseling professionals and professionals-in-training dedicated to excellence in scholarship, research and clinical practice. The purpose of Chi Sigma Iota is to promote and recognize exemplary attainment in counselor education and the practice of counseling. Currently, there are 279 chapters of Chi Sigma Iota worldwide. There are over 73,000 initiated members and 13,000 active members..

Nu Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota was founded at The College at Brockport in 1986 as the 13th chartered chapter. More than 240 members have been initiated into Nu Chapter. 2011 marks Nu Chapter's 25th anniversary as a continuously active chapter of Chi Sigma Iota.

Eligibility Requirements
Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and completed a minimum 9 credits of study in counselor education. Counseling professionals must have a 3.5 minimum GPA in counselor education and state or national credential as a professional counselor.

Membership Application Process
Membership in Nu Chapter and Chi Sigma Iota is a two-step process. First, eligible candidates submit an application to the local Brockport chapter, Nu Chapter. The application is reviewed by department faculty for their endorsement and by the Nu Chapter Executive Board. Upon approval for Nu Chapter membership, the candidate may apply for membership to Chi Sigma Iota International. Following membership in both, candidates are recognized at the annual initiation ceremony in May.

  1. Apply to Nu Chapter - Complete the Nu Chapter Membership Application Form and submit to Anne Nenni, Counselor Education Secretary, 350 New Campus Drive, Brockport, NY 14420 with a $15 application fee. Checks are payable to Nu Chapter Chi Sigma Iota. Email Keri Neadom to request a copy of the Nu Chapter Membership Application Form.

  • An excited group of students, alumni, and faculty joined Nu Chapter leaders for a Spring 2012 planning retreat. From that meeting, we have David Buckhout and a group of students helping with Programming, and Kerri Neadom assumed the role of Membership Chair.
