Nu Chapter
Chi Sigma Iota
Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society
Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society of counseling professionals
and professionals-in-training dedicated to excellence in scholarship,
research and clinical practice. The purpose of Chi Sigma Iota is to promote
and recognize exemplary attainment in counselor education and the practice
of counseling. There are 150 chapters of Chi Sigma Iota worldwide. Total
membership is 13,669.
Nu Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota was founded at the SUNY Brockport in 1986.
More than 100 members have been initiated into Nu Chapter.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and completed a minimum 12 credits
of study in counselor education. Counseling professionals must have a
3.5 minimum GPA in counselor education and state or national credential
as a professional counselor.
Local Membership Benefits
Monthly meetings are held to conduct business, enjoy the fellowship of
colleagues and network.
Programs and workshops on contemporary and professional issues are presented
throughout the year.
NuInsights, our award-winning newsletter, is issued quarterly.
Our specially trained Crisis Support Team is available to assist any school
district in Western New York in the event of a sudden death or tragedy.
New student orientation is presented yearly by working professionals
who outline the realities of counseling in various settings and the program's
requirements.
The Nu Chapter holds an Annual Awards and Initiation Brunch, where the
awards for Outstanding Contributions to Counseling, Outstanding Counselor
Practictioner and Outstanding Nu Chapter Member are presented.
The Award of Excellence is a stipend awarded annually to a student in
the Department of Counselor Education.
A reception for graduates follows Commencement and is an opportunity for students, families and faculty to gather and celebrate graduates' accomplishments.
