THE GEORGE & MARY BAUER AWARD

This fund has been established by Mr. And Mrs. Bauer, alumni from the classes of 1963 and 1965 respectively, to recognize and assist a married student who demonstrates a commitment to the field of elementary or secondary education and maintains good academic standing in pursuit of teacher certification at the undergraduate or graduate level at SUNY College at Brockport. This award is restricted to students matriculated in the Department of Education and Human Development Department.

Eligibility:

  1. Matriculated graduate or undergraduate student in the Education and Human Development Department Teacher Certification Program.
  2. Must be married and may be a full or part-time student in good academic standing as defined by the SUNY Brockport academic policies at the time of selection.

Criteria:

  1. A matriculated student in the Education and Human Development Teacher Certification Program at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  2. A letter of application for the award that:
    1. Highlights the applicant’s academic performance to date.
    2. Documents his or her struggles to complete a degree while married and striving to juggle the responsibilities of family, work and education.
    3. Describes the applicant ’s dedication to the teaching profession.
    4. States his/her commitment to completing the degree and goals after completion.
  3. Three (3) letters of support from professionals in the field of education who can comment on the merits of the applicant as a potential recipient of the George and Mary Bauer Award.
