THE FRANCES MORONEY WHITED READING SCHOLARSHIP


The Frances Moroney Whited Reading Scholarship recognizes an outstanding student in the SUNY College at Brockport teacher education elementary certification program who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence in the teaching of reading in the elementary classroom. This scholarship was established in 1985, by Dr. Frances Moroney Whited, professor emeritus of the Department of Education and Human Development.

Eligibility and Criteria:

  1. Be accepted in the teacher certification childhood program 1-6 in the Department of Education and Human Development at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
  2. Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better at the time of selection.
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to and potential for excellence in teaching literacy in the elementary classroom.
  4. Complete the Frances Moroney Whited Reading Scholarship Application Form.
  5. Submit an essay not to exceed two typed pages including your commitment to teaching, experiences working with children especially in literacy education, volunteer activities, and biographical information.
  6. Request Letters of Recommendation from two professors.
