Scholarships, Awards & GrantsTeacher Candidates have a unique opportunity to do one portion of their student teaching placement in the Sunshine Coast of Australia. This option consists of spending June through early September in Australia, having an orientation to the program and Australian culture, an optional Outback Tour, and culminates in a placement at one of the school districts. The second portion of the student teaching requirement is completed in a Rochester area school district in the fall semester immediately following the summer placement.
The Field Experience Office at the College at Brockport has partnered with the SUNY Cortland study abroad office, which administers the program for local SUNY participating schools. For more information, visit the SUNY Cortland Study Abroad website and click on their Australia Program.
An information session will be held in the fall of each year to give more information to interested candidates and have former participants share their experiences. Please view the flyer with previous student teacher testimonials, and links to the Australian school districts that host student teachers. If you can't wait for the fall session, please contact Diane Maurer, Director of Field Experience and Certification, at (585) 395-2596 or by e-mail at dmaurer@brockport.edu.
