Childhood Literacy Application Process

The Department of Education and Human Development reviews applications to the Childhood Literacy program one time per year. The application deadline is February 15 for admission in either the summer or fall of the same year. Application packets may be obtained from the Office of Graduate Admissions in Morgan Hall. Be certain to indicate the Childhood Literacy Program on the application. As part of the self-managed application process, you must submit:

  • Official transcripts of all graduate and undergraduate work completed
  • Three professional (not personal) recommendations, if possible, from those who know of your aptitude for teaching, ability to relate to children, and ability to successfully do graduate-level work
  • An essay of your reasons and fitness for teaching and pursuing graduate education

Applicants selected for admission to the program are notified of the Department's decision in late March.

Note: Admission is competitive and not all applicants may be selected during terms of high demand. Students who have completed all of the prerequisites at the time of application will receive full consideration to the program. Applicants may be asked to participate in an interview as part of the application process.
