Three Conceptual Framework themes permeate all professional education programs at The College at Brockport. First, candidates are expected to have a solid base of knowledge and skills in their discipline, including content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, professional and pedagogical knowledge and skills, and professional knowledge and skills. Second, candidates are expected to demonstrate a set of professional dispositions. And third, candidates are expected to have a positive impact on P-12 learners.
Program Overview
The Childhood Literacy Program is a 36-credit program that can be completed only with part-time study over a minimum of two years. Applications are reviewed during the spring application period and may begin the program in the summer or fall of the same year. The degree leads to New York State (NYS) initial and professional certifications in Literacy Birth-Grade 6. It will also meet the state’s permanent/professional certification education requirement for PreK-6, Early Childhood, or Childhood provisional/initial certification. A grade of "B-" or better is required in all program courses used to meet initial state certification requirements.
