The Childhood Education Curriculum Specialist program
meets the degree requirements for NYS Professional Childhood 1-6,
Early Childhood Birth-Grade 2*, or NYS Permanent Elementary Pre K-6
certification.
Prerequisites
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or
university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
2. Valid NYS initial Childhood Education Grades 1-6, initial Early
Childhood Birth-Grade 2, or provisional elementary (Pre-K- Grade
6) certification
* Please note that completion of this program does not lead to an extension or additional certification in Childhood Education Grades 1-6 for those holding the initial Early Childhood Birth-Grade 2 certification upon program entrance. However, those holding the latter may qualify for the initial certificate in Childhood Education Grades 1-6 upon direct state application if they complete a minimum of 6 credit hours of Childhood pedagogy (see note below).
**Students holding certification in Early Childhood are strongly encouraged to complete pedagogy coursework.
