Childhood Inclusive Education Program
(Grade 1-6)

Program Information

The Childhood Inclusive Education Program offers initial dual certification in Childhood Education and Students with Disabilities grade 1-6. Teacher candidates with dual certification are qualified to teach in general and special education/inclusive classrooms in grade 1-6. A separate application is required to apply for admission to the Childhood Inclusive Education Program. Application review dates are September 15 and February 15: applications are available online at www.brockport.edu/ehd.

  • Education is not a major at the college. Applicants attending Brockport must be enrolled in one of the approved academic majors listed below.
  • Prospective transfer students are strongly encouraged to carefully review academic major requirements before choosing an academic major at www.brockport.edu/academics. Transfer students can apply for program admission before college acceptance, but must be accepted by the college prior to enrollment in classes. Acceptance to the college does not guarantee acceptance to the program. In times of high demand not all applicants meeting minimum requirements may be admitted to the program.

Admission Requirements at Time of Application

  1. Completion of 45 credits of college level work.
  2. Cumulative GPA > 2.5 earned at Brockport and prior college(s) attended.
  3. Two recommendations: recent college professor, and a professional recommendation from a volunteer or experience.
  4. Enrollment in one of the approved academic majors listed below.
  5. Submission of the application essay.

Note: While the 30 hour entry experience is no longer an admission requirement, the department strongly encourages applicants to gain a volunteer or work experience with children prior to program admission.
