Calvin Rich Poetry Award Guidelines
(Please Read Carefully!)
Two awards may be given. One will be for a poem structured according to, or a variation on, traditional form (See item II.4 below). The second award will be for free-form verse. However, no award will be given if the judges feel none is worthy. (Awards depend upon how much the principal earns.)
I. ENTRANT QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be matriculated at Brockport.
- Must have completed 12 credit hours at Brockport by submission deadline date.
- Must have a GPA of at least 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduates.
- December graduates, whether or not enrolled in spring semester courses, are eligible.
II. SUBMISSION CRITERIA
- Entries must be submitted under an alias, accompanied by a letter identifying the writer and including phone number and address .
- Entries and accompanying letters must be typed with margins NO SMALLER than 1 inch.
- Submissions must be original poetry, must total no fewer than 50 and no more than 100 lines; for example, submissions could include a selection of poems (totaling between 50 and 100 lines) or a single long poem.
- Poetry may be traditional form or a variation on traditional form (sonnet, villanelle, Spenserian stanza, blank verse, alliterative verse, etc.) or free - form verse.
