Educational Opportunity Program

November/December 2004 EOP Newsletter

From the Director

Let's see now, turkey time is over and I hope each of you has enjoyed Thanksgiving with your family and friends. Now it's time to head down the home stretch toward the end of the fall semester. I hope while you were enjoying your holiday and your break you were also being revitalized and you're now ready to put forth your best efforts toward finishing with a bang. By this I mean really good grades on each of those papers and on every one of those exams, even finals. Then you can relax and enjoy both Christmas and New Year's Day with confidence and a clear mind. Since this is the last issue of our newsletter this fall, let me say I wish and pray all your holidays are full of joy. I also hope you and your family will be safe and sound.

Take the Challenge!

Can you count the candy canes in this newsletter? If you are able to correctly count the number of candy canes hidden in this newsletter, you can win a prize at our holiday celebration on December 9, 2004. Once you have your count make sure to stop by the EOP main office and give Terri your guess. She will record your name on a sheet of paper. Winners will be announced during our holiday celebration, so make sure you are present. (Hint: look beyond the words!)

Congratulations to winners of EOP essay contest!

On November 16, 2004, the Educational Opportunity Program celebrated the winners of the Guy Vickers Essay Contest. Ann Marie Mosich and Justin Oliver each won a $500 scholarship award from the Tommy Hilfiger Foundation for best essays. The purpose of the essay was to write about what the students learned during a presentation given by Guy Vickers -- a SUNY College at Brockport EOP alumni -- this past September during the freshman orientation weekend. Along with the scholarship awards, the Tommy Hilfiger Foundation donated Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts to all the incoming EOP freshmen. The Educational Opportunity Program would like to thank Guy Vickers for his continued support and all EOP freshmen for their efforts and creative essays.
