Welcome From the Director
Boy, didn’t that semester break go by ever so fast? Let me say “Welcome Back” to a brand new semester. Now, I have some good news and some bad news. First, here is the good news. We have received brand new computers with flat screen monitors and a new printer for the EOP student lab, courtesy of the College. We have also received news that the College voted to restore to the EOP budget for this year (2004 – 05). The College will restore the 5% that was cut by Governor George Pataki earlier this year. Therefore, our tutoring program and your EOP stipend will remain intact for this spring. You can thank the College president and his staff for this good news.
The bad news is that, once again, Governor Pataki has decided to cut the funds for the EOP program in his proposed budget for 2005 - 06. If the proposed budget stands, it will have a hard impact on the direct aid to each student and our tutoring program. If this is to change, we will need the efforts of each and every one of you. We will discuss how to fight this cut and what part you can play, in the very near future. In the meantime, all of you have a job to do, and that job is to get the best grade possible in each course you are enrolled. Achievement has always been the theme of our program, and for the spring 2005 semester, it will be the driving force for all we do. You can expect your counselors, tutors, instructors, and everyone else to demand nothing less than the best from you. We must show not only that EOP is a good program but also that it is the best program money can buy. So if we seem to be a little pushy, just say to yourself, “it’s for my own good,” and together we can work towards one of the best semesters EOP has ever experienced.
