WORDS TO LIVE BY
By: Kristen Tricoli
Don’t get a PhD, or you’ll learn to speak stuffy.
Advice given to this young college student
As if naïve and close-minded
Laughing first, pondering later
Taken aback, considering my shoes
Then shaking my head in slight annoyance
Valuing my life as a lone eccentric
Who usually avoids “stuffies”
Sticking with the “off-beats” who make life
Interesting, fun, giving it meaning
I smile, shake my head and
Hang the quote on my dorm room wall.
~Kristen Tricoli, EOP Junior, written as a freshman, when I met one of my three advisors, Professor Teresa Lehr, English department. She gives this advice to all her new major/minors.
