Farewell and Best Wishes to Ida Rockwell

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and the Campus Community:

I am taking this moment to let you know that I am leaving my position at SUC Brockport College, as Senior Educational Opportunity Program Counselor. I will be starting a new position at The Bureau of Program Certifications as a Standard Compliance Analyst next month. My last day with the Educational Opportunity Program will be March 27th.

For the past five years I have served as one of the Senior Counselors and Supervisor to the Annual Honors and Recognition Banquet in the Educational Opportunity Program. I have also been the advisor and mentor to several students and clubs on campus as well as off campus. It has been a great pleasure and I have enjoyed the experiences immensely, but it is time to move on. Each one of you has touched my life in your own special way. I will cherish the experiences and knowledge that I gained from working at SUC Brockport and specifically the EOP Program.

To my co-workers, especially the people in the Financial Aid, Bursars, and Admissions offices. It has been a pleasure working with you. Thank you for all your support, especially the assistance you have given our students. It feels like I am leaving a part of my family, but as we grow, we must all branch out and explore new horizons, which is exactly what I am doing. I have grown because of you. Thank you.

To all of the students in the EOP program especially those students on my caseload, each of you have great strengths and you can be successful. Sometimes it involves taking a risk and stepping out of your comfort zone by introducing yourself to someone new, or saying hello, or just smiling. You can do it! Please know, that I believe you can all be successful in what ever you do, as long as you believe in yourself. Do not let others steal your dream, but be open to suggestion. Take what you need from those suggestions and file the others away for another day. You never know when you may need that knowledge.

I would like to leave you some words of wisdom: Time goes by very fast, cherish each moment. Don’t be so serious that you do not remember to smile or laugh. I read somewhere “We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” Remember to enjoy life. Remember to give back to a program that has had such a positive impact on your life. Make it an even greater program than it already is. Those are some of the lessons that I have learned.

Thank you for some great years. I will always cherish the experiences. This is not goodbye; this is until we meet again. …
