Student Spotlight

In each newsletter, at least one EOP student will be given the spotlight to allow everyone to know a little more about what makes our students shine. To receive this profile, an EOP counselor must nominate the student for “The Student Spotlight.” No established criteria exist to receive this profile other than being an all-around great student.

We have a true renascence scholar in the family. Jairo is presenting at this years Scholars Day. His topic is “Factors that affect decision making for aversive outcomes.” Jairo also did a recent study relating to censorship of cartoons, a very timely topic. Please attend his presentation to experience a remarkable researcher at work. Make sure you ask Jairo about his hooptie.

African American Studies and CEO of Children’s Entertainment Company

Diane is a senior majoring in African-American Studies. She is a very dedicated student and businesswoman. She runs her own children’s entertainment company entitled Miss Sweet Potato Pie. In fact, the latter is the persona she takes on during her engagements. She travels extensively to promote cultural pride, dance, and entertainment. Miss Sweet Potato Pie (aka Diane Johnson) it turns out was spotlighted in the February 20 th issue of the RochesterDemocrat & Chronicle where she taught the Miss Sweet Potato Pie dance to children at the Memorial Art Gallery’s Black History Month Family Day. This student’s future is looking very “sweet” indeed!
