Student Spotlight

In each newsletter, at least one EOP student will be given the spotlight to allow everyone to now a little more about what makes our students shine. To receive this profile, an EOP counselor must nominate the student for “The Student Spotlight.” No established criteria exist to receive this profile other than being an all-around great student.

Student:  Jessica Abert
Hometown: Hamlin, NY
Major:    Criminal Justice
Career Goal:  Law Enforcement
Counselor:   Dan Askey

We have a world-class champion in the family.  She recently participated in a Karate tournament in Japan.  She won first place in the middle-weight women’s division.  When you see her say, congratulations to a truly world class individual.

Student:    Mercedes Martinez
Hometown:   Bronx, NY aka The Boogie Down
Major:  Criminal Justice
Career Goal: Hopes to become a CIA agent overseas
Counselor:   Andrea Rodriguez

We have an amazing new transfer student this year.  Mercedes has quickly used her many skills to become involved with the Brockport Student Government by being one of the readers for the 9/11 vigil and assisting with the makeshift memorial for this event.  Mercedes is quickly making new friends among the EOP students and through her new position as a night desk attendant at Thompson Hall.  If you see Mercedes, give her congratulations and get to know her.  You will not regret it!!!

Student:    Erin Tiernan
Hometown:   Fine, New York
Major:  Business Management
Career Goal: Entrepreneur, Professional Basketball Player
Counselor:   Stefan McDonald

Erin is a talented athlete who is planning to take women’s basketball all the way to the championship!  Last year, as a star center for Finger Lakes Community College, she was the Conference Player of the Year.  She was Conference Player of the Week twice last season when she had two outrageous games.  In one game she had 31 points, 29 rebounds, and 6 blocks along with a 27 point, 15 rebound effort.  That’s Wilt Chamberlain-type stuff!  She was also nominated as an All American for basketball.  Erin has the stuff to take Brockport to the top.  “We’re winning it all!” says Erin with confidence.  “If we’re not playing for the ‘ship’, what’s the point?”  No doubt Erin…  no doubt…
