On May 2, 2009, we had our 30th annual Honors and Recognition Banquet where we celebrated 40 years of student success. We had performances from Brockport‘s gospel choir, a poetry reading by Ciaseem Andrews, and a dance by Keyerra Charles and Jason Aryeh Kingsley. We had a great turn out and we are anticipating another great year of celebrating student success on April 17, 2010. SAVE THE DATE!!!
As we begin a new year, one of the first and most important things I can do is to encourage each of you to do your best to have a successful fall semester. Now is the time to really make things work. Set a plan and stick to it. Keep a schedule. Check your alarm clock. Is it working? Review each one of your syllabi. Get to know each of your instructors. Sign up for a tutor or two. Remember it’s that first step that can make all the difference in the world. After all is said and done, it’s all about getting the best grade possible. We in the EOP family are promoters of academic excellence. It is important to us that each student is doing all they can to be the best they can. So my words to each of you are, “I know you can.”
We in EOP anticipate a higher level of student engagement in learning as well as an increased level of involvement in personal growth and career goals.
Ven a celebrar! Come help us celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! From September 16th to October 15th, we will have activities that showcase Hispanic culture and food. Join us on October 7th as we host the annual Hispanic celebration. If you are sick of the dining hall, this is a great way to get some good free food while at the same time celebrate EOP’s diverse family. If you love music and dancing, we are also setting up a night for Salsa dancing lessons. The theme for homecoming is “Celebrating Diversity,” and we all know that nobody does that better than EOP, so join in on these great activities! If you are interested in helping out or you have any ideas, call Latasha at 395-5437 or Caitlin at 395-5433 or stop by our offices!

On Thursday September 4, we celebrated the start of the Fall 2009 semester. Students and staff gathered at Commissary Park to enjoy barbeque, music, games, and our EOP Family! About 100 students enjoyed the event with music from Rochester’s DJ Babi Katt; new students and staff were acquainted. Be sure to keep a lookout for upcoming Fall EOP events!
