Thank you for demonstrating your interest in and support of the implementation and use of e-portfolios. Our SUNY COCID conference on E-portfolios (electronic portfolios) will have two foci: 1) student enrichment and 2) program assessment. E-portfolios hold some promise in higher education;  while the platform is still in its early stages of development, there seems to be a sufficient critical mass of early adopters to warrant a SUNY-wide discussion of opportunities and risks.
  • Student enrichment:  How are students using e-portfolios?  What are faculty doing to support e-portfolio development at either the course or the program levels?  What is the potential for e-portfolios for increasing the web-presence of student work either through formal presentations, blogging, or journaling? In what ways can e-portfolios support professional development through résumé construction and the showcasing of noteworthy work:  lesson plans, business plans, artwork, music, collections of writing?
  • Program assessment:  Given the widespread desire for accountability and accreditation, how are e-portfolios being used to meet assessment needs?  How do they operate in assessing student work in the individual course or the program?  Can they be used in aiding accreditation needs like NCATE, individual SPAs, SCBCA, General Education, and other administrative bodies?  Can they be of use in assessment for faculty/staff review?  Institutional program review?
