There's no doubt that a rich and stimulating education requires that learning extend beyond the classroom environment. Working closely with faculty mentors, undergraduate students are active collaborators on research projects and participants in faculty-awarded grants. Their dedication and hard work often leads to practical application in related internships, opportunities to present at national conferences, or even publication in a professional journal.

Equally as important as building working relationships with faculty is the students' bond with their peers. The earth sciences are, by their very nature, physical, hands-on disciplines that include field work. Beyond the scheduled field trips for class, the members of the Earth Sciences Club plan trips to quarries, state parks, museums and other areas of interest. It is an excellent opportunity to socialize with their fellow majors, while at the same time, encouraging other non-majors to get to know the physical world around them.
