SPONSORED PROGRAMS INCENTIVE FUND (SPIF)
Last year, the College was awarded more than $4.1 million in sponsored funds to support research, training, and public service projects by faculty and staff. In addition to obvious benefits to the principal investigates' research and scholarship, many of these projects qualified for "bonus" funding from SUNY, providing additional dollars to the College budget. As you know, Chancellor King has targeted sponsored funding acts a key element in increasing private support of the State University. Our campus goal is to reach $5.0 million in sponsored funding, of which at least $1.0 million is for research, within the next few years.
Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the establishment of a Sponsored Programs Incentive Fund (SPIF). SPIF funds are an economic incentive for faculty and staff to prepare and submit proposals, through the College's Office of Grants Development, for external funding to support research and related activities.
- All full-time faculty and staff of the College are eligible.
- Renewal applications of existing grants are ineligible for SPIF awards.
- The SPIF payment will be awarded when the grant proposal is completed and approved by the Office of Grants Development, and submitted to the external funding agency, foundation, or other source.
- In accepting the payment the faculty/staff member agrees to revise and resubmit the proposal the following year, if it was submitted to a federal agency that provides reviewer's comments, and the Director of the Office of Grants Development requests that the proposal be revised and resubmitted.
- SPIF payments will be made in the form of Extra-Service Compensation; and Extra Service Vouchers which are available here and from from Colleen Donaldson in the Office of Grants Development.
- The amount of the Sponsored Programs Incentive Funding will be as follows:
Research Grant <$50,000 ($10,000 min) = $500
Research Grant $50,000 to $150,000 = $1,000
Research Grant >$150,000 = $1,500
Training, service, other <$50,000($10,000 min)=$400
Training, service, other $50,000 to $150,000 = $800
Training, service, other >$150,000 = $1,200
