Please limit narrative to two single-spaced pages. The budget and budget narrative can be on a third page. Additionally, a resume and relevant materials may be attached (not to exceed 10 additional pages). Proposals must be written to be understandable to someone who is not in your discipline. Please submit one copy (to save trees and money) in the following format.
1. Completed cover sheet (attached page).
2. Problem statement/background and relevance to discipline.
Briefly state the background and/or problem you are addressing. Relate the significance
of the project to your discipline. How will this project further your knowledge
in the field or create
a new work? (A literature review is not necessary). Potential for publishing
and/or presenting results of your project in an appropriate manner for your
field (specify). Why is the support of this program vital for you to complete
your project? Are there other sources you could apply to? If you have what were
the results?
3. Goal(s), Objectives, Activities, Project Outcome
Describe the overall goal(s) of your project; what specifically do you plan
to accomplish during the time frame of this grant? What will be your finished
project? How will you achieve your goal(s) and objectives? Who will be involved
in the project? If you will be traveling to another site or collection append
a letter from the collection and fully justify why you must travel there to
complete project.
4. Budget
Please be very specific in your budget narrative and justify each item
you request and how much money you are requesting. Requests for software should
include a justification as to why it is needed for this project and that it
is not already available on campus. Requests for less than $500 are encouraged.
If you are requesting funds for travel include a justification as to why you
must travel to accomplish your goal.
5. Resume or vitae.
6. Relevant appendix materials (resume and appendix materials not to exceed 10 pages). If project involves a survey or interview questions should be attached.
Review Process: Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of five, including 4 faculty each representing a School and a staff person from the Office of Academic Affairs.

GUIDELINES FOR SCHOLARLY INCENTIVE AWARDS 2006-2007
Purpose: To advance faculty knowledge in their fields. Funding may be
used to conduct research, initiate creative projects, complete projects, or
pursue other scholarly activities. This is a competitive program. Following
is a list of eligible and ineligible activities. A total of thirty twpfaculty
received support in previous years.

Maximum Grant: Up to $500 per project, if two or more faculty are submitting a proposal for a joint project a maximum of $500 can be awarded due to our limited funds.
Notification: Within three weeks of deadline.
Projects can begin immediately after award.

1. Is the grant clear, well written and easy to understand?
2. Is the budget detailed, specific and reasonable.
3. Is the significance of the project to the faculty member's discipline clear? Is publishing and/or presentation potential for the project to be shared with others in the faculty member's discipline specified?
4. Is it clear what the end product of the project will be and why Scholarly Incentive Funds are needed to accomplish it?
5. Is it clear what activities will be conducted and that this can be reasonably completed in the stated amount of time?
