What is the College Senate?
The Faculty Bylaws state: The faculty has the obligation to participate significantly in the initiation, development and implementation of the educational program of the College, including primary responsibility for curricular development, admissions and scholarship standards, and the academic, professional and physical environment of the College.The College Senate is authorized by the Policies of the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York, Article X.The Senate consists of teaching faculty as well as professional staff who have official voting faculty status in the College. The Senators are elected by their units of representation according to the provisions of the Bylaws, and each Senator serves on a standing committee which reviews new policies to be presented to the entire College Senate for discussion and a vote.The SUNY Brockport College Senate facilitates bidirectional communication between the College and the SUNY-wide University Faculty Senate.
The standing committees are Enrollment Planning & Policies, Faculty & Professional Staff Policies, General Education & Curriculum, Graduate Curriculum & Policies, Student Policies, and Undergraduate Curriculum & Policies committees. Senators may also be asked to serve as Senate observers/consultants on search committees or on ad hoc committees as the need arises.
