Establishes a Scholarship
The Kiwanis Club of Brockport has established a scholarship to recognize students who exemplify leadership, service and fellowship.
The Brockport Kiwanis Leadership Scholarship will be awarded to a junior who has attended Brockport for at least one year and is a current member of Kiwanis Circle K Club, an organization that is the college level of Kiwanis. The scholarship recipient also must have completed three or more service activities in the academic year and be an officer in the club.
“We are proud to start this scholarship, which will allow our students to be recognized for their leadership and service they give our community,” said Lynda J. Sperazza, PhD, CPRP, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Brockport, Circle K faculty advisor and assistant professor and graduate program director for recreation and leisure studies.
Circle K International is the largest collegiate community service, leadership development and friendship organization in the world. The chapter at the College, chartered in 2007, is one of more than 11,000 in 17 nations. The campus chapter is extremely active in the community. With more than 35 members, the club completed more than 1,000 hours of community service during the 2009-10 academic year. The club focuses on working with children.
At the annual CKI District Convention, the Brockport chapter was presented with the Total Funds Raised Award for its fundraising efforts for the Breast Cancer Walk. In addition, Christina Cocca, club service chair, was awarded Outstanding Committee Chairperson for her contributions to our service events during the 2009-2010 academic year. In April 2010, the chapter was awarded the Club/Organization of the Year award at the College.
