A Generous Donation to the Emory Morris Challenge
LaBella Associates P.C. has made a generous donation to the J. Emory Morris Challenge Campaign for Summer Student Research in Chemistry.
“We found the Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program offered by the College particularly interesting because the sciences are at the very core of what we do,” said Robert B. Pepe ’01, chief financial officer for LaBella and a Brockport Foundation board member. “This type of program can be very meaningful to students because it helps them to stay engaged in their course of study while taking away some of the distractions of trying to make ends meet.”
Through the challenge, Professor Emeritus Morris will match all donations to the Undergraduate Research Fellowships in Chemistry or the Morris Chemistry Research Challenge Fund up to $100,000. The $16,000 gift from LaBella—one of Rochester’s leading engineering and architectural firms—has helped the College nearly reach its goal.
“Professor Morris’ challenge is a generous commitment to both students and the sciences. Our donation will have far greater impact and certainly will go a lot further,” said Pepe, who also made a personal gift to the challenge. “There’s no telling just how far the work that is done through this program, and the ideas that come of it, may go.”
