Ways to Give

Annual Gifts
Matching Gifts
Bequests
Memorial & Tribute Gifts
Leadership Gifts
Planned and Deferred Gifts

ANNUAL GIFTS…Are intended to be used as unrestricted revenue that helps the College develop new programs, strengthen existing ones, and allows the college to take advantage of opportunities that wouldn’t otherwise be available. Each year, gifts to the annual fund make a difference in the lives of ALL of SUNY Brockport’s students.

MATCHING GIFTS…More than 7,700 companies and foundations match their employees gifts to charitable organizations. Do you know if your organization does? If they do, your company may double – or even triple – your gift to the Brockport College Annual Fund. Contact your personnel office to see if your employer participates in the Matching Gift Program or search for your company now! (link opens in new window).

BEQUESTS…Through a bequest provision, you can designate a specific amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after other bequests are satisfied to the College. Adding a codicil to an existing will is a simple process that begins by making your intentions known to your attorney.

MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTS…Gifts which honor living individuals or deceased friends or loved ones are gratefully accepted by the Foundation. Such contributions are often used to reflect the interests or talents of the person being honored. Any gift to the Foundation may be designated in memory of or in honor of a loved one.

LEADERSHIP GIFTS…Some donors choose to support the College with leadership
gifts – often made payable over a three to five year period. These gifts usually consist of cash or stocks, can be gifted to the endowment, or can be used to establish named funds.

PLANNED AND DEFERRED GIFTS…Planned giving can be an attractive giving option to many donors. Through a planned gift, donors can often make larger gifts than they thought possible, and for some donors this is the only way to make a substantial gift to the College. For more information about planned and deferred giving, please contact us at giving@brockport.edu.

What You Can Give

Cash
Securities
Life Insurance
Personal Property
Real Estate
Gifts-in-Kind

CASH...Gifts of cash can be made by check payable to Brockport College Foundation, or by VISA, MasterCard and American Express. Cash gifts can be made in a single payment, or pledged and paid over a one- to five-year period.

SECURITIES...It is possible to gift securities you own to the Brockport College Foundation to support College needs. Gifts of securities generally qualify the donor for a tax deduction equal to fair market value at the time of transfer, and can offer the advantage of avoiding capital gains taxes that occur if securities are sold outright.

LIFE INSURANCE…By naming the Brockport College Foundation as owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, donors can generally take an immediate tax deduction for the accumulated cash value of the policy (if any) and future deductions for subsequent premiums paid.

PERSONAL PROPERTY…Artwork, rare books, antiques, coins or other collectible items can be used to make a gift to the College. If personal property is donated during the donor’s lifetime, it can reduce the size of the donor’s taxable estate and qualify the donor for a tax deduction for the year in which the gift is made.

REAL ESTATE…Real property - a home, farm, office building or land - can often be gifted to the Brockport College Foundation. Gifts of real estate can qualify the donor for a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the real estate donated, and also avoid any potential capital gains taxes. In some cases, it is possible to retain a life interest in donated property and receive a partial tax deduction while you continue to use the property.

GIFTS-IN-KIND…Gifts of equipment or goods that would constitute useful additions to the College are both welcome and encouraged. The value of the gift would be based upon the market value as determined by an independent third party, who is not an officer of the College, Foundation or the donor.
