Culture change in long term care facilities is important because of the growing population of older adults and the increasing cost of keeping individuals in these facilities. Culture change is a growing movement that works toward improving the care of older adults in long term care facilities by promoting person-centered care and a home-like environment. The change to person-centered care is going to play an important role in long-term care facilities staying in business. The former traditional medical model concentrated on medical treatment only, paying no attention to spiritual or psychosocial aspects of care. The purpose of this quantitative research study is to examine how staff perceives the changes that are happening in their long term care facilities as they work toward a person-centered care model. Staff members are critical participants in the culture change process therefore, it is important to consider their views on the changes taking place. This study aims to obtain a variety of thoughts and opinions on culture change through various levels of staff through utilizing a one-time cross-sectional survey. The dependent variable is the perception of progress toward implementing person-centered care. The independent variable is what variables are promoting culture change and what variable are inhibiting it. Based on literature the hypothesis of this study is that different levels of staff will have different perceptions of the move toward person-centered care. The results of this study will provide data needed to implement effective culture change through all levels of staff.
