Provider Perspective on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis with HIV Negative Individuals: Knowledge. Implementation and Implications Within Monroe County

The intent of this of this concurrent mixed method study is to explore medical and social provider’s perception of the use of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV negative individuals. ln this study, a quantitative survey is used to measure the relationship between PrEP as a form of HIV prevention and provider perception of PrEP as prevention. At the same time, provider perception of PrEP in Rochester, New York will be explored using a qualitative interview with medical and social service providers at their local offices. Participants will include local professionals in Rochester, Ny that have experience working in the HIV treatment. This study will seek to answer several research questions. What knowledge do providers have in regards to PrEP use? What are provider’s perspectives’ on PrEP as HIV prevention in Monroe County? What are provider’s perspectives on the implications of PrEP use in Monroe County? The hypothesis of this study is that provider knowledge and provider perspective on implementation and implications of PrEP as HIV prevention will influence the use of PrEP in Monroe County. Quantitative data is being analyzed through bivariate analysis, while the qualitative research utilizes grounded theory method to identify themes within the data.
