2013 Master's Level Graduate Research Conference

Session I - Session II - Session III

Illness Management and Recovery

This poster presentation will cover the basic principles of Illness Management and Recovery. Illness Management and Recovery, (IMR) for short, is an evidence-based practice. It is primarily focused on management of symptoms derived from a mental illness. IMR empowers consumers to learn about their mental illness, manage symptoms by learning coping strategies, develop their own goals for recovery, and make informed decisions about their treatment. IMR specialists meet with consumers individually or as a group for three to ten months. Treatment is provided through psycho-education, behavioral tailoring, relapse prevention, and coping skills training. Illness Management and Recovery invites the consumer to have hope and take an active role in their journey to recovery.
