2013 Master's Level Graduate Research Conference

Session I - Session II - Session III

Theatre Therapy and Autism

This poster describes the use of theatre as a therapy for children with autuism. As children with autism tend to struggle with social and emotional skills and theatre has been used since the time of the Ancient Greeks to help people cope with their emotions, this presentation considers how that same practice can be applied to children with autism. This presentation outlines the research done by previous experts in the field as well as the recent study completed that involves the creation of a theatre pilot program for children with autism. The children in this program are engaged in both scripted and improvisational activites.
