This presentation includes a brief history of community arts and their economic and public health benefits since the early 20th century. More specifically, it uses complexity theory to examine a case study of Locust Street Art (formerly named MollyOlga) located in Buffalo,NY. Locust Street Art is one of the longest running community arts organizations in the United States, and has been providing arts education to the surrounding community for 54 years. This case study investigates the factors contributing to the longevity of the organization. It aims to answer the question: How does a community arts organization sustain itself over time?
