Session I - Session II - Session III

Responsibilities and Duties of Paraeducators in Separate and Inclusive Physical Education Settings

Paraeducators are highly qualified school personnel that provide required services to students with unique needs in the educational classroom setting. This poster identifies and describes four components of paraeducators when working with students with disabilities in a physical education setting. These components include (1) roles and responsibilities, (2) instructional strategies, (3) behavior management, and (4) assessment. Furthermore, paraeducators are required to provide the most supportive services to the individual students with unique needs in the least restrictive environment. This poster also compares each component when viewed in a separate physical education setting and in an inclusive physical education setting. Paraeducators should be highly trained and prepared to assist physical education teachers in creating a safe, positive, and valuable learning environment wherever their pupil(s) are placed according to their individualized educational plan.
