Session I - Session II - Session III

An Unlikely Candidate: Exploring the Possible Aquaculture of Bowfin

Can bowfin (aka dogfish) be cultured? As the price of their eggs, or roe, exceeds $80/kg in parts of the country, these long-lived, ancient fish will likely face over-exploitation soon. Two experiments are presented: one will hopefully be the first to successfully breed the majestic creatures in captivity, the second compares the growth of adults fed different diets that an aquaculturist would likely use.
