With the shift towards non-fiction in the Common Core State Standards, educators are left with the dilemma of why and how to incorporate Young Adult Literature into school curriculum while still adhering to student learning objectives that are expected of them. By examining the ways in which Young Adult Literature—proving to be one of the most meaningful ways to connect with students through text—can be used to develop critical thinking skills, educators will recognize just how simple and essential the implementation of Young Adult Literature into the school curriculum and Common Core State Standards truly is. A presentation for secondary educators seeking a closer look at the complexity of Young Adult Literature and its correlation to the Common Core State Standards.
