Matriculated Degree Seeking Status
Matriculated graduate students are those who have been admitted to a program of study leading to a master’s degree or a Certificate of Advanced Study. The College at Brockport assigns each matriculated student an advisor from the department offering the degree to assist the student in designing a Plan of Study that addresses the student’s own academic goals and meets program requirements. Final responsibility for meeting all graduate requirements, however, remains with the student.
Applications are generally processed on a continuing basis and are forwarded by the Office of Graduate Admissions to the appropriate departmental graduate admissions committee. All programs have specific application deadlines as indicated in the application material.
A graduate committee within the department or departments concerned, reviews the academic background and other qualifications of each candidate and makes appropriate recommendations to the Office of Graduate Admissions. Only a letter from the Office of Graduate Admissions grants official matriculation.
Departments may recommend that an applicant be granted one of two types of admission:
- Regular admission: Matriculation in a degree program without reservation, indicating a sound academic background in preparation for a specific program of graduate study.
- Conditional admission: Matriculation into a degree program on a conditional basis. Students admitted on a conditional basis will be apprised in writing of the conditions they must fulfill in order to achieve regular admission status. The maximum number of credits that can be earned while in conditional status is 12.
Students recommended for admission to a master's or advanced certificate program receive official notification of acceptance from the Office of Graduate Admissions.
