Carol has been a social work educator since 1977. She received her B.A. from the University of Maryland, M.S.W. from Syracuse University, and Ph.D. in social science from Syracuse University, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her research is in the intersection of maternal substance abuse and child welfare issues. She has been a full-time faculty member at SUNY Brockport and an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth College. She has taught across the social work curriculum, and to these courses she brings her interests in women's and children's health, substance abuse, and race, class, and gender. During her nine years as a social work supervisor and clinical social worker at Rochester General Hospital, she brought mental health and substance abuse counselors into the Women's Center to provide patients with integrated, interdisciplinary, and interagency care opportunities. Her many publications and presentations reflect her interest and expertise in mothers and addictions, child welfare professionalization, and ethics. She is a coauthor and project director to several collaborative child welfare grants in the Rochester area. |

Dr. Jed Metzger joined the faculty in 2004 following teaching in the program since its inception as an adjunct faculty. He received a BA in psychology from Emory University, his MSW from New York University and a PhD in clinical social work also from NYU. He has worked int he child welfare/ children's mental health field (including work with children infected/affected by HIV/AIDS) since 1983. He has previously taught as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University and the University of Buffalo.
His primary areas of service and thereby engaged scholarship include kinship care giving, child welfare service delivery, international social work and macro practice aimed at addressing violence in the community. Dr. Metzger teaches a variety of courses including the practice sequence in the Family and Community concentration and diversity coursework.

Elizabeth Russell

Beth joined the department of social work the summer of 2006 as an adjunct professor in our GRC MSW program, and joined the faculty in spring 2007 as a full-time faculty member. She has worked in a variety of practice settings, including as a case manager for the chronically mentally ill, clinical social worker in a university hospital outpatient setting, child therapist, and research assistant at two other universities. Her main areas of interest are sexual health in practice settings, community advocacy for social justice, women and depression, and mental health. Her current research focuses on community-development projects with older adults and sexual health training of social workers. Beth received her B.S. in human development and family studies from Cornell University, her M.S.W. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and her Ph.D. in education from the University of Rochester. Her doctoral dissertation assessed mental health practitioners’ knowledge, attitudes, and training in sexual health.

Richard Russell

Dr. Richard Russell joined the GRC-MSW faculty in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Contemporary Humanities from St. John’s University in Minnesota, and an MSW, a certificate in Gerontology, and a PhD from Syracuse University. Prior to teaching in the GRC-MSW program, he taught as adjunct at Syracuse University and, for 15 years, worked as a chemical dependency counselor and mental health therapist in the Unity Health System in Rochester, New York. As a chemical dependency counselor, he co-founded the Older Adult Chemical Dependency Program, and, as a mental health therapist, founded the Senior Outreach Program.
His primary area of research is in the area of late-life masculinity, specifically the experiences of elderly men caregivers who care for wives and partners with cognitive impairment. An additional research interest is in the area of visual sociology. In the GRC-MSW program, he has taught a variety of courses, including HBSE, diversity, policy, research and Masters Project.

Shirley Sharp

Shirley has been a member of the social work faculty, full-time and part-time, since 1977. She received her M.S.W. from Smith College. Shirley is director of field education in the undergraduate program and assistant director of field education in the graduate program. She teaches foundation BSW and MSW courses. Before teaching at Nazareth, Shirley practiced social work in varied settings, from family service to residential treatment. She consults in the community for the Best Practices Partnership, where she offers training in interactive supervision. Shirley continues to train and facilitate a sexuality education program for parents for the Family Resource Centers of Crestwood Children's Center, and offers supervision for students placed in Child Protective Services in rural counties for SWERCC.

Brad Snyder joined the GRC MSW Program in 2010 as the Coordinator of Admissions, Registration and Student Services. As the Coordinator for the MSW Program, he assists students with registration, represents the MSW Program at various information sessions and ensures “student success” through working with faculty and collaborating with various departments on both the Nazareth College campus and The College at Brockport’s main campus.
Mr. Snyder’s prior position was the Facility Assistant/ Events & Outreach Coordinator for the past three years at The College at Brockport MetroCenter. In that role, Mr. Snyder was responsible for facility management, classroom coordination and the scheduling and overseeing of high profile events at the MetroCenter.
Mr. Snyder received an AAS from Monroe Community College in Liberal Studies, a BS in Sociology and an MPA from The College at Brockport, SUNY.

She brings over 30 years of professional experience as a legal secretary/assistant for several law firms in the Rochester area, an administrative assistant for the Tribunal of the Diocese of Rochester, and several positions with the University of Rochester, including the Eastman School of Music. |

Ginny is the chair of the department of social work at Nazareth College and has been teaching social work for more than 25 years. She received her M.S.W. from Syracuse University and is the co-author of several federal and state grants ranging from child welfare training to gerontology curriculum integration. Her research interests include ethics and child welfare service delivery. She has practiced as a social worker in health care, and most recently led caregivers' groups for the Veterans Administration. Professor David currently serves as the co-chair of National Association of Social Workers, New York State Chapter Ethics Committee, which oversees ethics complaints for social work in New York state. |

Dr. Jason Dauenhauer, who joined the faculty in 2004, holds a BS from the College at Brockport, an MSW/Specialist in Aging certificate from the University of Michigan, and a doctoral degree in Human Development from the University of Rochester. Prior to teaching at Brockport he was project coordinator of the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center at the University of Rochester. In this position Dr. Dauenhauer was responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing geriatric education programming for health care professionals.
His primary areas of research include family caregiving in long-term care settings, elder abuse, program evaluation, and the scholarship of teaching. Dr. Dauenhauer teaches a variety of courses including Research Methods in the undergraduate and graduate social work program, Human Behavior and the Social Environment II, Issues of Aging in America, the Aging Family, and Field Instruction |
Mark Primus

Mark has worked with children and families for the past 20 years. He has provided counseling services for Hillside Family of Agencies, Rochester City School District, Strong Memorial Hospital, Urban League of Rochester, Center for Youth Services, and the Rochester Police Department. He is also a private consultant to the Department of Probation's Juvenile Unit and Kenyon International Emergency Services. His research interests include Caribbean families and fathers, African-American father-child relationships, paternal identity, and childhood development within a cultural context. Mark served as an adjunct instructor since 2004 at Nazareth College, teaching in both the BSW program and the GRC MSW program. He received his B.A. in sociology from Roberts Wesleyan College and an M.S.W. from Syracuse University. Mark is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Syracuse University in the Department of Child and Family Studies.

Annemarie has been a member of the social work faculty since 1987. She is a Nazareth alumna and received her M.S.W. from Catholic University of America's National Catholic School of Social Services. She has taught a number of the foundation BSW courses, including Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Practice II and III, Social Services and Social Policy, Human Behavior and the Social Environment II, and Senior Seminar. Prior to teaching, Annemarie practiced social work for many years. Her practice experience includes areas of gerontology, child welfare, counseling, school social work, supervision, and field instruction. Annemarie is the former director of the Office for Students with Disabilities. |

Estella has been a full-time member of the social work faculty since 1981. She served as department chairperson for 12 years and as past founding director of the Greater Rochester Collaborative MSW program for six years. Estella's research and scholarly background includes expertise in the areas of social policy, political and legislative activism, macro and community practice, administration and higher education, diversity and multicultural practice and education, and religion/ spirituality and social work. Additionally, she serves as a trained Holocaust educator for the Greater Rochester area. She is an appointed member of Mayor Johnson's Commission on Race and Ethnicity for the city of Rochester, an appointed member of the Council on Social Work Education's Commission on Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Diversity, a site visitor for both CSWE and the New York State Education Department, and she serves on several human service boards of directors in our community. Diane Dwyer is the Associate Dean for the School of Education and Human Services. She served as Chair of the Department of Social Work from 1998-2010. She received her MSW from SUNY Buffalo's School of Social Work where she also pursued PhD studies. After teaching at SUNY College at Buffalo and D'Youville College, she joined the SUNY Brockport faculty in 1981. Diane Dwyer has taught across the social work curriculum in both the graduate and undergraduate programs. Her research interests center around innovation in social work education, partner violence and juvenile justice. Her work has resulted in many publications and numerous presentations at national conferences.
As Associate Dean of the School of Education and Human Services, she strives to listen to the concerns of students and faculty and insure that these concerns have a voice in the larger university.

Debra Fromm Faria has been teaching social work for twenty years at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She joined the College at Brockport faculty as Director of Field Education for the Greater Rochester Collaborative MSW Program in 2001. In January 2010 Debra assumes the role as Director of Field Education for the College at Brockport Social Work Department. Debra is also co-director for the College at Brockport’s Center for Excellence in Gerontological Social Work. She has many years of clinical and administrative social work experience in gerontological and health care settings, is a NYS licensed clinical social worker and has administered a number of gerontological and child welfare social work training grants. She earned her BSW from Rochester Institute of Technology, MSW from Syracuse University and holds advanced certificates in Gerontology and Women’s Studies from Syracuse University. Debra also is a doctoral candidate at the Syracuse University Maxwell School Social Science Program. |
