Undergraduate students are essential to the research conducted by Jacques Rinchard, PhD, who teaches in our Department of Environmental Science and Biology. He hires them to work in his research laboratory and takes them out onto the Lake Ontario to conduct fieldwork. “Lectures are beneficial, but giving our students the opportunity to be hands-on out in the field or in the lab is even more important,” says Rinchard, who examines the reproductive potential of key fish species in the Great Lakes. “We put our students in a position where they are working with the same equipment and doing the types of things they’ll be doing in their careers.”
