Melissa Waughtel, Benedict Hall -- [ Fri, 24 Feb 2012 ]
My time at Brockport amounts to more than I could ever put in words. This was my top choice school, and it is proving to surpass my hopes for a phenomenal and beneficial college experience. I am honored to be a second year Resident Assistant, holding a 3.2 GPA, and multiple part time jobs. I've been honored to attend and present at multiple RA and leadership Conferences on and off campus. I completed the Green Leadership program last year. I am actively involved on the committee for Brockport's very first Tunnel of Oppression in March 2012, and the list continues. I have been promoted to Townhome Assistant for 2012-2013, have an internship lined up with Residential Life this coming summer, and strive to attend Graduate School in a Student Affairs Masters program. I NEVER would have been able to achieve so much or have this much confidence in my future if it weren't for the inspiration, resources, and support of SUNY BROCKPORT.

I am a proud Brockport undergraduate and finance major. Three years ago I came to Brockport not knowing what to expect. Today I have discovered that Brockport has done more for me than I could have ever dreamed. Brockport is more than an opportunity to access a better future; it's an institution where you learn to create one. The services, faculty, and staff here have endowed me with the gift of creation and exploration which has taken me across the world on six different study abroad programs, allowed me to meet my future wife, and ensured me a brighter future. http://www.brockport.edu/profiles/bnunnery.html

I am a junior at Brockport and could not be more pleased to be attending school here. Through my involvement with faculty, staff, and student organizations I have discovered my career path. My involvement as a Peer Mentor, Resident Assistant, and many other on campus jobs helped me realize I want to work in Higher Education. Over the years I have struggled with academics and finding my place here. Faculty and staff noticed my struggles and now I am succeeding. Being a student here has made me the person I am today and I could not be happier.
Brent Swanson -- [ Fri, 17 Feb 2012 ]
I am currently a sophomore in the Undergraduate Studies program here at Brockport. I joined the Brockport family in the fall of 2010, with a major in Biology and aspirations to become a surgeon. After my first two semesters I realized that I was not meant to work on people but rather to work with them. I have since changed my major to Communications with a minor in Business Administration. I have had amazing opportunities here at Brockport ranging from joining the Living Learning Communities (LLC) as freshmen, becoming a Summer Orientation Advisor, being selected a Resident Assistant for the LLC, to being chosen planning co-chair for Homecoming 2012, and most recently being elected president of the Habitat for Humanity club. Through each of these experiences I have grown tremendously as a student, member of the community, and as a leader. Without the strong motivation from the College for student engagement I am not sure if I could have become the student leader I am today.
Stephen Harrington -- [ Fri, 17 Feb 2012 ]
I am an undergraduate student majoring in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. The College at Brockport has helped me in more ways than I can count. If I had not come here I might have been working a job which I hated. I have discovered my passion for higher education and cannot wait to start my career. Campus Life, the Office of Advancement and my involvement in BSG have allowed me to flourish as a student and develop the skills that will allow me to be successful after graduation. I do not know where my life will take me when I leave Brockport, but I do know that Brockport has been my home since I was 18 and there will always be a place in my heart for Brockport.
Alyssa Mitchell -- [ Thu, 16 Feb 2012 ]
I am a Communications major in the Delta College Program. Although I am only a sophomore, I have already had many wonderful experiences and opportunities offered to me. Never in my life did I think I was capable of being the Chair of a committee that raises thousands of dollars for the Special Olympics. I am also involved with Residential Life and the Leadership Development Program. I have met many supportive and caring people on this campus willing to give me their advice and help me succeed. Through this support, I was introduced into the field of higher education and I am sure that it is the path I want to follow. I have been able to attend higher education conferences, gain internships, scholarships, and study in Europe. My adventures here are only halfway over and I look forward to seeing what Brockport has in store for me these next two years.

As a Business Administration Major the College at Brockport as provided me with countless opportunities to grow and develop, both as a business professional and as a leader on campus. Faculty and Staff have allowed me to reach my full potential, pushing me harder than I ever have in the past and it has paid off!! With multiple internships under my belt, as well as leadership positions on campus I know that I will be successful in the challenging Business world because of the tools that the College at Brockport provides.

Dan Zdanowski, The College at Brockport. -- [ Tue, 7 Feb 2012 ]
I am an undergraduate in my last semester at Brockport. Brockport has provided me with numerous opportunities to grow as an individual and as a professional. The faculty and staff at Brockport see the potential in every student and I am thankful that they pushed me to achieve more than I ever thought possible. I have been very involved in the Chemistry Department serving as a laboratory assistant for undergraduate chemistry classes. I have tutored students and was even given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for an undegraduate chemistry class. Brockport provided me with the relevant experience necessary to go on and get a job in the field of education. I was actually hired to teach chemistry and physics part-time at a local private high school during mty senior year here. I spent three years as a Resisent Assistant. I was able to put on many programs for the Brockport community. For two years I was a member of a team of RAs awarded the department of Residential Life and Living Learning Communitiy's "Educational Program of the Year." I have also been very involved with the student government on campus. I have held leadership positions including Chief Justice of the Student Court, Parlimentarian on the Board of Directors and Executive Director on BSGs central staff. These positions gave me the opportunity to sit on campus wide committees and meet much of the professional staff at the college. The college's faculty and staff are always approachable and always give students. My professors care about me and have an obvious love for what they teach. I consider myself very fortunate to have chosen to attend this institution.
Paul Nasri, McLean Hall -- [ Tue, 7 Feb 2012 ]
Attending The College at Brockport has been the most influential decision of my life. Brockport has helped me flourish. I credit Residential Life for much of my success. They showed me that my personality and integrity was something desired in a leader. My supervisors and peers instilled confidence in my abilities; something that truly allowed me to reach my full potential. Through the Leadership Program, I have been able to shape my values and learn by listening. I have learned much from my professors and mentors, but I acknowledge that there is much enlightenment that awaits me. My journey has lead me towards Physical Therapy graduate school, and Brockport has provided me with a sound base. As I become more competent in my field of Exercise Physiology, I become more grateful for the experiences I have had here. I have developed skills pertaining to my field of study, as well as my passion for leadership development. Team work and communication have allowed me to progress in my academic career. When my time at Brockport draws to a close, I will be able to smile. Not because it is over, but because I will know that I played an integral role in building my community. I will move on knowing I touched people's lives and made their college experiences as wonderful as mine. Enjoy the journey. Build your community.
Peter Lista, Brockport, New York -- [ Tue, 7 Feb 2012 ]
Since 2008, I have had the great privilege of working with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff who have helped me grow as a student and realize my potential. As a sociology major philosophy minor, the Sociology Department faculty has been instrumental in helping me develop as a student and sociologist. Through the guidance of the department and the dedication of its faculty, I have been engaged in multiple research projects culminating in my own senior thesis funded by the Brockport Foundation's Summer Undergraduate Research Program (which Dr. Eric Kaldor and I will present at the Eastern Sociological Society annual conference). I have had the privilege of acting as a tutor through the Student Learning Center and Office for Students with Disabilities, tutoring a diverse group of students. As a student in the Delta College program, I have been given the flexibility to directly engage in my own education through interdisciplinary and experiential learning. I have recently been accepted into a top 20 graduate program in my field and intend to pursue a PhD and begin my own career in academia. Because of the commitment and encouragement offered by the college at large, I have been able to achieve more than I would have ever thought possible.
Verleen Philgoene, Perry Hall -- [ Sun, 5 Feb 2012 ]
As a junior at Brockport I am grateful to have been blessed with priceless opportunities, skills, and knowledge that I will be able to utilize throughout my life. Prior to summer orientation I had never visited the Brockport campus. Would I know how to get to my classes? Would I get home sick and call my family to come rescue me? By the end of my first week of classes all my questions had been answered. I realized getting to class would be a breeze and being five hours away from home would allow me to grow as an individual as well as allow me to see how independent I was. Freshmen year I soaked in college life getting adjusted to my new freedom and responsibility. My sophomore year I was employed by Health Promotion and Prevention Services. HPPS allowed me to exercise my leadership and public speaking skills because I facilitated workshops in various resident halls. Most importantly HPPS allowed me to come in contact with Josh Fegley who has been a great role model for me. From Josh Fegley I learned the importance of being passionate about your career and continuous improvement in the workplace. With the leadership skills I had acquired from working for Health Prevention and Promotion Services I decided to apply to become a Resident assistant which I believed was the ultimate display of student leadership. Becoming a Resident Assistant has truly been a blessing to me because while at times I have to address the serious responsibilities that come with the position being a Resident Assistant also allows me to provide students with a positive, safe, and productive college experience. I enjoy giving back to students what the College at Brockport has giving to me. At Brockport I have the freedom to continuously challenge myself whether it is with my academics or through my leadership experience. Brockport has taught me to embrace the diversity that surrounds me on campus and to utilize my life experiences to help me be successful in the future. For these lessons learned I will forever be grateful for my time as an undergraduate at Brockport.
Garrett Roe, Undergraduate History/Certification -- [ Mon, 19 Dec 2011 ]
During the five semesters that I have been at The College at Brockport, the college has given me a great experience. Brockport has broadened my horizons and has given me an environment that harbors growth, support, encouragement and opportunities. I am currently a Resident Assistant working for the Office of Residential Life and Learning Communities. This position has put me into contact with many people, which has enhanced my leadership abilities, people skills and much more. Through this opportunity I have been able to influence many lives in a positive way, which I love to do and wish to continue to do. Another avenue that Brockport provided me is the Leadership Development Program. I am currently in the third tier (Presidential Certificate). It has enhanced my leadership abilities as they relate to my affect on those around me. Through this program, I have been able to be a part of a team that is currently in the process of creating a new dock for the College on the Erie Canal. This opportunity impacts not only me but the community around me. This past semester fall 2011, I along with three others started a new club, The College at Brockport Swing Dance Society, which allows students to swing dance on campus. I was able to create a new club, use campus facilities, and promote my club in the school newspaper, the Stylus, as well as the social networking site, myBrockport. This opportunity allowed me to share my passion of swing dancing with those around me. For the past two summers, I have worked for the First Year Experience department as a Orientation Student Advisor. I have been in direct and indirect contact with over 2,000 incoming freshman over the course of two years. It has been the best job that I have ever held and I have been given the chance to make a difference in many lives that come to The College at Brockport. The College at Brockport has given me and other students opportunities to follow our dreams and aspirations. It has been a great experience here that has allowed me to become a better person and has allowed me to be successful!

I am currently an Undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. I am also completing my thesis project to graduate from the Honors Program. When I enrolled as a freshman at The College at Brockport, I knew I wanted to get involved and take ownership of my college career. Now in my senior year, I'm proud of my accomplishments, my hard work and the connections I’ve created. From my first role as a Resident Assistant to my internship for the Leadership Development Program, I couldn't ask for better opportunities to grow and learn outside of the classroom. Most of all, I am thankful for my supportive mentors on-campus. Without them, I may have never discovered my passion for a career in Student Affairs.
Gerard Pritchard, Brockport, NY -- [ Sun, 4 Dec 2011 ]
My success story starts before I came here to Brockport. When I was at Monroe Community College I applied for an RA position, went through group processing, and then was notified that I did not get it. This really discouraged me. When I came to Brockport I applied again for an RA position and was placed on the alternate list for the fall semester. I put it in the back of my mind for the summer, wondering if I was going to get hired. One day, out of the blue when I was at my desk at my internship, I got a phone call offering me an RA position for the fall semester! I was so excited, and I felt like I was ready to do it. Here I am, four months later, and I wouldn't change a thing. One of my fellow co workers said that being an RA "is the hardest job you'll ever love." That couldn't be more true. I have had so many ups and downs this semester, but I would not trade it for anything.
Janie Hinds -- [ Tue, 22 Nov 2011 ]
Our students contribute to the larger commumity in many different and often unusual ways. George Wasickanin, donated bone marrow to a woman in Holland in the hope of saving her life. Here is the story as told by Rochester's 'Democrat and Chronicle'(Nov. 22, 2011). "George Wasickanin knows little about the woman he's saving. She's 48 years old; she lives in Holland; she has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. But he won't learn her identity, or anything else about her, until after a procedure today that will extract bone marrow- producing cells from his blood stream, which will be sent overseas to aid in her treatment. For Wasickanin, 23, of Fairport, it's exactly what he signed up for. "Everyone around me is like 'Why would you do that? Isn't that painful?'" said Wasickanin. "Well if I can save a life it's definitely worth it. And if someone in my family had the same sort of disease, I would expect the same from someone else." Over 8 million people are on the national bone marrow registry, having signed up to be a potential donor for a patient in need. But unlike blood transfusions, whereby patients can sometimes accept a wide range of blood types, a bone marrow donor must have very similar DNA. That's why a family member's bone marrow is much more likely to match than that of a stranger. There have only been 50,000 donations made between unrelated patients since the national registry was created about 25 years ago. "That's pretty bad odds, but I got it," said Wasickanin. "I was actually excited." Marrow donations are necessary when a patient is undergoing a drug or radiation treatment that destroys the bone marrow in their body. It isn't actually the marrow that is transfused from one person's body to the next, but rather a group of specialized stem cells that are extracted from the marrow which are necessary for the production of blood cells. Once Wasickanin's donor receives his transfusion, these new cells will travel to her bone marrow and begin producing blood. She'll also inherit his allergies and some of his blood's other characteristics. The woman's best case scenario: a complete recovery. Wasickanin, a communications major and a cadet captain in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at The College at Brockport, said that he first found out about the registry a few years ago from a classmate. Suzanne Haussner, a friend of Wasickanin who will travel with him to Washington D.C., where the procedure will be performed, called him a "caring, genuine, happy-go-lucky person who truly cares about other people." "He always jumps at the chance to help someone," she said. Wasickanin said that he's hoping to visit the woman if the procedure is a success. He's trying to get stationed in Germany once he receives his commission as an army officer, which would make the trip a much shorter one. "I was a little nervous at first, but I guess I've never saved someone's life before," he said. "So not to be selfish, but I'm excited to feel that." SDOBBIN@DemocratandChronicle.com
Kathleen Fallon, Assistant Professor, Counselor Education -- [ Tue, 25 Oct 2011 ]
Our department values mentoring students' development as professional counselors, including engagement as scholar-practitioners. Often this is a journey requiring students to stretch beyond their perceived limitations. Two stories exemplify the courageous journey to student success. First, graduate school counseling student, Christine Reber, overcame a previously limiting struggle with anxiety to present with me and another student in her first professional conference. A strong student, well-respected by her peers, she often lacked self-confidence. She felt plagued by doubts in her ability and potential. Prior to the presentation, we paced the streets of Rutgers, NJ, to help diffuse her anxiety. Mentoring is supporting and challenging. She met her own challenge and helped facilitate a workshop that was very popularly received. While her journey is not without its struggles, Christine is growing more confident in her professionalism. Second, first-semester graduate students feel often intimidated and doubt their ability to contribute to their new-found profession. In Fall 2010, in an introductory class with 14 students, 5 students accepted an invitation to submit a class paper for peer-reviewed publication in an online counseling resource sponsored by Chi Sigma Iota, our international counseling honor society. All 5 student submissions were reviewed by counseling professionals and faculty and ultimately accepted for publication! This experience empowered students - even first semester students - to recognize their have knowledge worth cultivating and sharing. One of my greatest pleasures as a faculty member is helping students recognize their professional selves and mentoring them in discovering how to share their knowledge to grow our profession. I feel honored to work with faculty colleagues within a college that values student success!
Richard Loscalzo, Thompson Hall -- [ Fri, 14 Oct 2011 ]
My name is Ricky Loscalzo and I am currently an undergraduate sophomore with a Major in Criminal Justice and a double Minor in Environmental Science and Forensic Science. My success story is that I acquired the position as a Resident Assistant in Thompson Hall. I never thought of being an RA until I came to college. To have acquired this position in Brockport has really been an honor for me because I understand how competitive. It gives me the confidence that if I want something bad enough, I will achieve it.

After Brockport, I went on for an MS and PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Rochester Medical Center. I was in biomedical research for a while, then switched over to teaching after my son was born. Although I came to teaching late, it feels very much like 'right livelihood' to me, and I love being at Rochester Institute of Technology. I am currently the Director of the Biomedical Sciences Program in the College of Health Sciences and Technology--and I also teach a variety of upper-level electives. One of my teaching/mentoring role models from The College at Brockport is Dr. David Brannigan. I try to channel the same sort of kindness and encouragement that I received from him!
Vanessa Babb, Brooklyn, NY -- [ Sat, 17 Sep 2011 ]
I am currently a graduate student at the University at Albany (SUNY). Well, it has been a year since I left Brockport, where the CSTEP and McNair Programs were my home away from my home. I have successfully completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps member through the Juvenile Justice Corps under the Center for Court Innovation in New York City. My site was the Crown Heights Community Mediation Center, where I served as the Outreach Specialist working directly with the 'Save Our Streets Anti-gun Violence Program'. This experience included working in an underrepresented community with at risk young people and promoting volunteerism--and becoming the change we want to see. My next step is completing my Masters Degree. I also just began an opportunity as a Program Manager for SmartStart Education in Brooklyn, New York. I enjoyed my four years at Brockport and I have left my mark with the CSTEP and McNair Programs, the Educational Opportunity Program, Residential Life, International Education, Campus Life, summer conferences and camps, and the cultural clubs. I believe that we are, because there is vision to become.

I am an undergraduate here at The College at Brockport entering my Junior year. I am majoring in Criminal Justice. Brockport has provided me the opportunity to break out of my shell and earn titles such as an Orientation Student Advisor, Vice President of Criminal Justice Student Association, Overnight Host, and Peer Mentor. I have taken advantage of the opportunity that Brockport provides the community to better myself as a leader. I cannot emphasize enough how this campus can transform people from average into an exceptional role model for the community at large. With all of the experience obtained through my involvement at The College at Brockport I am certain that I made the right choice by becoming a Golden Eagle. The reward is confidence in my ability to succeed both in and outside the classroom.

Cassandra Prong, Alumnus -- [ Sat, 1 Jan 2011 ]
The four years that I spent at Brockport has provided much more than an education. Brockport has allowed me to grow in responsibility all the while giving me a sense of comfort and family. The opportunities at Brockport are endless and for that I am thankful. Being a Resident Assistant, a tutor at the Student Learning Center, and a student representative for the nursing department kept me very busy. As a nursing major, biology minor and in the Honors Program, I was very dedicated to my academics. In addition to presenting my Honors Thesis on Oocyte Donation at Scholar's Day, my advisor and co-author, Dr. Joanne Stevens and I submitted the research to The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing. Right before graduating in May 2009 we were notified that our article was accepted and was published in the 2010 JAN/FEB issue of: MCN-The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing. I was overwhelmed with emotions, not only was I graduating, I was a published author. What an incredible feeling! When I thought my time at Brockport couldn't get any better, I was chosen as a recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence and was honored at a ceremony in Albany. Attending The College at Brockport for my undergraduate studies was one of the best decisions I have ever made, it provided the stepping stones for success. I am especially thankful for the open skate at the ice arena where I met my husband! Brockport has been life-changing for me and for that, I am extremely grateful. Thank you, Cassandra Prong, BSN, RN

I graduated from SUNY Brockport's Nursing Program in 2007 and from there have taken off in the nursing field! I am now working at a trauma 1 center and am the clinical trainer on the adult oncology floor. I know that Brockport has set me up to succeed in life and am so happy I decided to get my bachelors degree from there. I am now going for my masters for my nurse practitioner and feel blessed that I have my education, which all started with Brockport. I would recommend anyone to go to this school and actually look for new graduate nurses to hire from Brockport because I know they got such a good education!

Dream, Believe, Achieve. The College At Brockport has allowed me to live by this mantra. I came to Brockport in 2008 in hopes to earn a bachelors degree in psychology. The moment I walked into my first psychology class I knew that I had the support I needed to succeed. I automatically knew that the staff here believed in me and my success. Although I am only a junior and I am still working on obtaining that degree, there is no doubt in my mind that I am achieving my dream here. I am always amazed by how many opportunities I have had here already, this community has helped me discover the person who I am and the person who I would like to be.

I am an undergraduate student here at Brockport, and I have had such an amazing time. I am a member of the Women's Lacrosse team, who last year for the first time in history made it to the NCAA Tournament. I am so thankful and honored to be a part of that team and to have a place in this college's history forever. Being a part of something so special and meaningful has made my college experience that much more wonderful and fulfilling. If I had not gone to Brockport, I would never have had the chance to be a part of such an amazing team.

Throughout my undergraduate career, I have experienced some of the many educational opportunities that are available for students at the College at Brockport. The faculty and staff truly care about the success of their students and seek to enrich their knowledge both in and out of the classroom. Within my Psychology and Communication majors, I can honestly say that I have received support that has helped me accomplish tasks that I otherwise would not have been able to. For instance, within the past year I have received first place in the undergraduate Scientific and Technical Writing Category for SUNY Brockport’s 8th Annual Celebration of Writing Program, the Sigma XI Award for Research, and two competitive research grants from the Brockport Foundation for Summer Research and the Psi Chi National Honors Society. Additionally, I have co-authored a manuscript with Dr. Jennifer Ratcliff which is currently under review for publication and have disseminated my research at local and national conferences. As a result of my experience at the College at Brockport, I am equipped with the skills I need to attain my future career aspirations.
Dayna Piraino, Undergraduate , Brockport, NY -- [ Fri, 26 Nov 2010 ]
My involvement with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has provided me with numerous positive experiences and opportunities. For example, my participation in one specific program, called 'Read: Hope in Action', has shaped me and my peers in many ways. 'Read: Hope in Action' is a program devised to promote literacy in underprivileged schools, and, as a volunteer opportunity, I and other student-athletes visited an elementary school in the city of Rochester. Not only was our main objective to read aloud to a group of adorable first-graders, but we also intended to have a lot of fun with these bright, young children. We got the chance to run around and play games with them, like climbing their rock wall, playing 'Duck, Duck, Goose', and racing on scooters (yes, college kids can still ride scooters, too!). Not only did we get a chance to play games, but we were also able to visit other classrooms and interact with students from the different grades. The students were ecstatic about our special visit; they were so interested in college life, the sports that we played, and pretty much almost everything about us. By the time we left the school, we could not help but feel good about our interactions with the students. On the way back to Brockport, the whole group was buzzing about the funny stories and moments we encountered throughout the day. It is safe to say that our participation in 'Read: Hope in Action' has given us the great opportunity to give back and bond with a diverse population of students, and reminded us how fun it is to be a kid again.

The four years I spent in Brockport have given me some of the best opportunities in my life. Being a double-major in Computer Science and Mathematics, I got the chance to work with some of the best professors, do internships at world-renowned companies and organizations, and eventually find out what I like to do after I graduate. Some of the most rewarding experiences I had in Brockport include working for LITS Web Services and Help Desk, tutoring for Computer Science and Math classes, and working on some of the most exciting projects in Computer Science and Mathematics. All this experience has successfully prepared me for life after college, and managed to keep my interest in academia and guide me towards graduate school. I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science at MIT, working on some of the coolest projects with some of the smartest people in the world.

This is my first semester at the College at Brockport. Being a transfer student I did not know what to expect coming to a new school. I feel the College at Brockport is very welcoming to its student population. My personal success story comes from athletics. Making the women's basketball team I have met many new people. As a team and coaching staff we work together and share the same passion. In addition, the being part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee I feel as though the athletics department at the College at Brockport is open for many ideas. I feel successful everyday I participate in basketball in addition to academics. Being involved on campus has made my first semester here at Brockport a success!

Although I was initially nervous about coming to Brockport, being here turned into the best decision I've ever made. Brockport focuses on getting students involved in their studies through first hand experience. Being an Environmental Science major, this means that I have the opportunity to study on Lake Ontario, at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, at the numerous unique wetland areas, downtown Rochester, and much more. Outside of the classroom, Brockport offers many opportunities for student success. Being a Resident Assistant for three years, I have had the opportunity to be involved in our new Living Learning Communities, Freshmen Orientation, work with numerous departments on campus, and be involved in many committees. Now, in my senior year, I feel confident that my time spent at Brockport has given me the knowledge and experience to be a leader in all of my future endeavors.

I am a broadcasting communications senior, and in my time here I have really been able to call Brockport my home. One experience that I have had during my time here that I feel has really helped me to be able to succeed is my involvement in the Brockport TV Club (BTV). I joined the club my freshman year, and have been involved ever since. Currently, I am the News Director of Brockport Weekly. Because of BTV I have learned more than I ever could in classrooms alone. Each week, I get to apply many of the lessons I learn in class such as filming, editing and writing stories. In addition, as News Director, I have developed skills in leading other students to get an assignment completed and making sure our show runs smoothly each week. Additionally, BTV has opened many doors for me. I have obtained jobs, internships, awards and scholarships. I have also cultivated relationships with faculty and staff because of my involvement in BTV.

My undergraduate career as a History major with Childhood Inclusive Education and a Studio Art minor at The College at Brockport has opened a world of enriching experiences for me. I have written for The Stylus, taught in the Brockport Central School District, served as secretary of the Art Student Association, tutored fellow students at the Student Learning Center, been inducted into the Alpha Chi and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Societies, worked as a special events artist, and have taken classes ranging from Improv Theatre to Ceramics to Child Psychology. Through the Honors Program specifically, I serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Honors Newsletter The Promethean, a peer mentor, an open house volunteer, an elected official on the Honors Club, student representative in the Honors Advisory Council, and have been nominated for a national position on the National Collegiate Honors Council’s Board of Directors. Without enrolling at the College at Brockport, I wouldn’t have such a wide variety of inspirational and rewarding experiences that have helped me to develop as a student, teacher, and person. Our college supplies students with a warm community that helps and encourages all students to grow as a well-rounded person through a variety of experiences.

As a math major in the Adolescent Education program, and a member of the Honors Program, I have had an extremely enriching experience at The College at Brockport. The first time I stepped onto campus, I knew this was the right place for me. I have had the opportunity to work with sixth graders in the Brockport Central School District; serve as a peer mentor in the Honors Program; edit the Honors Program newsletter, The Promethean; support other students through tutoring; serve as an officer for our chapter of Colleges Against Cancer; and chair our annual Relay for Life event on campus. Never did I imagine that all of these opportunities would be so impactful on my life. I am thankful for everything Brockport has afforded me.

As a senior at The College at Brockport majoring in International Business & Economics and International Affairs, my experiences at Brockport have been engaging, life changing and still, never ending. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself spearheading a campaign that raised over $10,000 for Special Olympics, working side by side members of the English Parliament, meeting the highest ranking women in the Chinese Government or even sitting in the café with a professor discussing current events. After applying to over 13 prestigious colleges and universities across the country, I am positive that I have made the right decision. Through my involvement with the Brockport Student Government, Delta College Program, the Office of Residential Life, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and a member of plethora of committees, I have learned lessons that are not teachable in the classroom – real life lessons that are truly the best experiences of my life. Brockport will give you the knowledge and education necessary to overcome the obstacles that you will face, will provide you with the opportunities to get involved to have experience in succeeding, and will enable you to have tons of fun throughout the entire process.
